Sharon suffers 'significant' stroke

Unread postby Carrie » Wed 04 Jan 2006, 18:43:35

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has suffered a "significant" stroke and is on a ventilator. Power has been transferred to Deputy Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. If Sharon doesn't recover, this could have significant ramifications for the Mideast.

Arafat died too. What significant impact if Sharon dies? Some people love him, some hate him, but wouldn't it just be more of the same? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Is Sharon a hawk or a dove? Who's in line to take over in Israel?

I also heard on the news that some arab king or prince or whatever it was died in Australia today. The first thing they said was that there was nothing suspicious about his death. That comment made the conspiracy guy in me to wake up.

Is this related to the moon landing fake in the Sixties somehow?

Sharon historically has been a hawk, but I believe that he recently had been attempting to improve relations with the Palestinians, and this had been causing a lot of friction with the hardline Likud party.

The Modesto Bee

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he dramatic decline in Sharon's health comes as Sharon runs for re-election on March 28 at the head of a new centrist party, Kadima. He enjoys a wide lead in the polls. The party's strength is centered on Sharon, and if he were forced to step down, Israel's political scene would be thrown into turmoil....

Sharon re-emerged as prime minister in 2001, and two years later he reversed his course of decades of support for Jewish settlement construction and expansion in the West Bank and Gaza, promoting a plan for unilateral withdrawal from Gaza and part of the West Bank. The pullout was completed in September.

The withdrawal fractured his Likud party, and he left it to form Kadima. He was putting together a list of candidates for the parliamentary election when he fell ill Wednesday.

Right now his outlook isn't looking very good. The stroke is being called "massive". If he dies, you could get someone who's even more hawkish than he is.

There is a reason you don't see fat old people. Old being over 70.

He is not going to recover and be able to take control of the Government again.

Man I bet they are passing out the candy in Gaza right now.

PM Sharon Remains in Surgery
04:55 Jan 05, '06 / 5 Tevet 5766

"(IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is about to enter the start of the sixth hour in surgery as doctors work to control cerebral hemorrhaging. Hospital official Prof. Shlomo Mor-Yosef announced late on Wednesday night that the prime minister suffered a “significant stroke” and efforts continue at this time to stabilize his condition."

It is now 5-6 am in Irael and he is still "in surgery" while they "attempt" to control bleeding.

I'd say they are trying to bail the Titanic.

Good Luck to his new Kadima (forward) party....

dedelup dedelup dedelup.....

update:

The Prime Machavelian is out of surgery, his personal doctor will not comment on his condition. It took six hours to suction off blood and brain matter with it,
then it took 20 min. to cauterize and declare surgery is "over"

See yahoo news:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060105/ap_ ... ael_sharon

"Israeli TV stations reported that Sharon was alive after an operation that lasted more than six hours. At daybreak, Army Radio reported that Sharon was undergoing a CT scan to determine if the bleeding in his brain had been stopped."

However Israelnationalnews says the OPPOSITE:

Sharon Remains in Surgery at This Hour
07:22 Jan 05, '06 / 5 Tevet 5766

(IsraelNN.com) Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital Deputy Director Dr. Shmuel Shapira reports the prime minister is still in surgery at this hour, confirming his cerebral hemorrhaging is quite extensive.

Dr. Shapira declined to give a prognosis, explaining the hospital does not make a habit of providing “live coverage” of surgery, adding it is not like a soccer match.

Shapira made mention of the surgical team, stating the prime minister’s team is comprised of world-renowned physicians, including neurosurgeons and cardiologists who rank among the most experienced and best in the country.

This may be due to a delay in reporting, fraud, mixed signals, or definitions of what "surgery" and "Is" Is.

It may also be that MORE surgery was needed after the C-T scan reveled more blood clots and thus more slicing and suction needed.

and the beat goes on....

Sharon Sent Back Into Operating Room

By STEVE WEIZMAN, Associated Press Writer 5 minutes ago

"JERUSALEM - Prime Minister
Ariel Sharon suffered a massive, life-threatening stroke Wednesday and underwent lengthy surgery to drain blood from his brain after falling ill at his ranch. Powers were transferred to his deputy, Ehud Olmert.

Doctors stopped the bleeding after more than six hours of surgery ended Thursday morning, but he was sent back to the operating room when a CT scan revealed that he required more treatment, said Hadassah Hospital Director Shlomo Mor-Yosef."

Better the Devil you know, I think.

Netanyahu is very hard line and has not been tempered by age as Sharon was. I saw him interviewed some months back and I have no doubt he will try to row back on some of the already quite small concessions made to Palestinians. He would not hesitiate to attack Iran either IMO.

You only are a war criminal if you loose a war.

If the Nazis or the Japanese had won the US military would have been hung for the fire bombings of Dresden and Tokyo.

Sharon did unilaterally pull out of Gaza. Bibi, Netanyahu would never have done that, Sharon was making a strategic concession to hold on to more land in the West Bank.

Also it is not just an opinion Bibi is more likely to try and attack Iran that is not just your opinion Madpappy but his own.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '')I will continue the tradition established by Menachem Begin, who did not allow Iraq to develop such a nuclear threat against Israel, and by a daring and courageous act gave us two decades of tranquility,” Netanyahu told Israel's Maariv daily.

“I believe that this is what Israel has to do” in the face of the growing Iranian threat, he continued.

The Israelis are moving more centrist than Bibi, I really do not think this hurts the peace process right now with the Palestinians there is no one with whom to make peace. Palestinian society has descended into chaos since Arafat kicked it Abbas is not calling the shots.
