Not sure why I’m bothering, but anyway..

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')So the universe has plenty of resources for man to use eh? What are they, let me think, oh yes, rock, rocks and more rock. No atmosphere whatsoever and no water.

You show a lack of understanding about the universe around us. Space isn’t just full of rock, it’s full of the exact same things as the Earth: everything in this solar system came about as the left overs from the formation of the sun. The Earth and everything in and on it, all the various types of asteroids and all the planets, they have all been formed from the same stardust material left over from the sun. There is plenty of water and oxygen out there, not to mention a vast supply of every mineral and a vast supply of energy. It’s just a matter of learning how to “live off the land”, something that NASA (among others) are trying to learn this very moment.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')If science was so great and able to solve all our problems, by now we should have cured all disease and be enjoying an unlimited lifespan!

Why should have it? Science promises nothing more then the most likely explanation of the truth. Unlike religion, which promises much but does not seem to deliver. If religion was so great, if God is there and loves us, then by now we should be living in a utopic wonderland. What has religion given us except wars, pain and suffering?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')Its all recorded in black and white

Do you believe everything you read, or just the stuff that you have been brainwashed into believing since a young age? How do you know your religion is the right one and all the others are wrong? Did you personally choose your religion or was it imprinted onto you like a barcode on your mind? What if you are wrong and some other religion is right? All this time following the wrong thing, making God or whatever madder and madder. Wouldn’t God rather you look at the world around you and use your own mind to critically analyse, rather then you believing without question what someone else claims is the word of God? Surely God would not like people to be unthinking automatons?

“For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible.” Stuart Chase

Quite right you are about religion being the cause of much bloodshed in human history. Sadly corrupt religeous powers and churches have abuses and distorted true religeon for their own short term political ends, but Christ never used force, neither do His true folowers. This is why He said..

John 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

His kingdom is the one to come, nothing to do with the kingdoms of men today.

Science has given us its fair share of pain and death too. Nuclear technology was discovered in order to be used in warfare. We saw its awesome awfullness at the end of WW2. Sadly the majority of nuclear power today is stored in warheads of destruction. How much better it would be if it instead provided energy for use to use.

I have come to my own viewpoints based on an analysis of the evidence. A significant proportion of the scientific community are creationists, and many others readily recognise what they call "intelligent design" in the natural world around. They just refuse to acknowledge the Designer.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Wolfrider', 'D')oes anyone really believe that mankind can survive when all natural resources are finite?
Sure, there's nothing to say mankind as a species can't exist on Earth indefinitely whilst making zero net draw down on finite resources. We managed it for tens of thousands of years. It's only in the last few thousand and especially the last 200 that our behaviour has become unsustainable. It's clear that industrial civilisation we have today can't survive when natural resources are finite but mankind certainly can.

By the way, what do quotes from the bible have to do with peak oil... or anything for that matter?

The Bible quotes are here to show the peak oil discssion community that there is another branch of thinking to factor into the debate.

Hope you all had a good Xmas. I fear next Xmas will be significantly more expensive. 2006 will be more eventful that 2005 I think.
