^^Lol, I was going to say Talking Heads: "Road to Nowhere."

As far as the Beatles, "Revolution" is among their best, IMO.

Pink Floyd: "Us and Them."

Ænema

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this

Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.

It's a
Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will cuz
I sure could use a vacation from this

Silly shit, stupid shit...

One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

Learn to swim.

Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
Mom's comin' round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Learn to swim.

Fuck L Ron Hubbard and
Fuck all his clones.
Fuck all those gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes.

Learn to swim.

Fuck retro anything.
Fuck your tattoos.
Fuck all you junkies and
Fuck your short memory.

Learn to swim.

Fuck smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas.
Fuck these dysfunctional,
Insecure actresses.

Learn to swim.

Cuz I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna watch it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.

I wanna see it all come down.
suck it down.
flush it down.

30 years later Jerry Reed is still relevant.

LORD MR FORD

Well, if you're one of the millions who own one of them gas-drinking, piston-clinking, air-polluting, smoke-belching, four-wheeled buggies from Detroit City, then pay attention. I'm about to sing your song son.

Well, I'm not a man appointed judge
To bear ill-will and hold a grudge
But I think it's time I said me a few choice words
All about that demon automobile
A metal box with the polyglass wheel
The end result to a dream of Henry Ford
Well I've got a car that's mine alone
That me and the finance company own
A ready-made pile of manufactured grief
And if I ain't out of gas in the pouring rain
I'm a-changin' a flat in a hurricane
I once spent three days lost on a cloverleaf
Well it ain't just the smoke and the traffic jam
That makes me the bitter fool I am
But this four-wheel buggy is
A-dollaring me to death
For gas and oils and fluids and grease
And wires and tires and anti freeze
And them accessories
Well honey, that's something else
Well you can get a stereo tape and a color TV
Get a back-seat bar and reclining seats
And just pay once a month, like you do your rent
Well I figured it up and over a period of time
This four thousand dollar car of mine
Costs fourteen thousand dollars
And ninety-nine cents, well now

{Chorus}:
Lord Mr. Ford, I just wish that you could see
What your simple horseless carriage has become
Well it seems your contribution to man
To say the least, got a little out of hand
Well Lord Mr. Ford what have you done

Now the average American father and mother
Own one whole car and half another
And I bet that half a car is a
Trick to buy, don't you
But the thing that amazes me, I guess
Is the way we measure a man's success
By the kind of automobile he can afford to buy
Well now, red light, green light, traffic cop
Right turn, no turn, must turn, stop
Get out the credit card honey, we're out of gas
Well now, all the cars placed end to end
Would reach to the moon and back again
And there'd probably be some
Fool pull out to pass
Well now, how I yearn for the good old days
Without that carbon monoxide haze
A-hanging over the roar of the interstate
Well if the Lord that made the moon and stars
Would have meant for me and you to have cars
He'd have seen that we was all born
With a parking space

{Chorus}

Come away with me Lucille
In my smoking, choking automobile
If you give a man a fish you will have kept him from hunger for a day. If you teach a man to fish he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

If you like Jerry Reed, then Ray Stevens is funny in the same vein:

Ahab The Arab
by Ray Stevens
album: Twenty Comedy Hits Special Col (1995),
Collection (1993)

Let me tell you 'bout Ahab The Arab
The Sheik of the burning sand
He had emeralds and rubies just dripping off 'a him
And a ring on every finger of his hands

He wore a big ol' turban wrapped around his head
And a scimitar by his side
And every evening about midnight
He'd jump on his camel named Clyde...and ride

Spoken

Silently through the night to the sultan's tent where he would secretly meet up with Fatima of the Seven Veils, swingingest grade "A" number one U.S. choice dancer in the Sultan's whole harem, 'cause, heh, him and her had a thing going. You know, and they'd been carrying on for some time now behind the Sultan's back and you could hear him talk to his camel as he rode out across the dunes, his voice would cut through the still night desert air and he'd say (imitate Arabian speech) which is arabic for, "stop, Clyde!" and Clyde would say, (imitate camel voice). Which is camel for, "What the heck did he say anyway?"
Well....

He brought that camel to a screeching halt
At the rear of Fatima's tent jumped off Clyde,
Snuck around the corner and into the tent he went
There he saw Fatima laying on a Zebra skin rug
Wearing rings on her fingers and bells on her toes
And a bone in her nose ho, ho.
Spoken

There she was friends lying there in all her radiant beauty. Eating on a raisin, grape, apricot, pomegranate, bowl of chitterlings, two bananas, three Hershey bars, sipping on a "R C" Co-Cola listening to her transistor, watching the Grand Ole Opry on the tube reading the Mad magazine while she sung, "Does your chewing gum lose it's flavor?" and Ahab walked up to her and he said, (imitate Arabian speech) which is arabic for, "Let's twist again like we did last summer, baby." (laughter) You know what I mean! Whew! She looked up at him from off the rug, give him one of the sly looks, she said, (coy, girlish laugh) "Crazy baby".
'Round and around and around and around...etc.

And that's the story 'bout Ahab the Arab
The Sheik of the Burnin' sand
Ahab the Arab
The swinging Sheik of the burnin' sand

I think Ray Stevens copied Reed's Guitar man with his version Gui-Tarzan.

Hey what's your most prized CD? Mine is David Bowie's Black Tie White Noise. It's mix of jazz and minimalist techno.

Ray Stevens, Like Jerry Reed, is kid's music, but if you're lucky enough to have kids who like it, you get to enjoy it with them. I don't listen to CDs, Mule. I download them onto my computer and then make 2-hour tapes for my car tape deck or playlists. I like to mix up different kinds of music. In recent years, I find I like vintage Jazz the best. Currently, it's Phil Woods (not so vintage, actually) Ornette Coleman, and Charley Parker, Gerry Mulligan, and Paul Desmond. I'll mix them up with old-time Chicago Jazz, or Kansas City Jazz or whatever sounds good. I get them from the public libraries. I'll mix in a little Dylan, a little Stones or Beatles, a little old-time R&B, blues, etc.

My eldest daughter did not like the Early Beatles. She went through the soulless Public School System. She regarded the Early Beatles as sophmoric. But as Paul McCartney noted, those early songs were very tightly constructed. There is no denying talent and good art. Now my beloved Carol is enjoying Europe and she likes anything The Beatles did.

Any Leonard Cohen fans? Love remains a difficult proposition. Eric Hoffer stated it best, a small taste is enough.

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Oh let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

I can respect a Beatles a true fan. What really floats my boat and still makes my hairs stand up are Lennon's Starting Over. I remember Double Fantasy getting lots of airplay when Lennon was shot. OK PMS show your age, where were you when Lennon was shot? I was 10 and in a donut shop in Ponca City, OK.

Instant Karma also gets a nod.

When I was 10, the Beatles came on the Ed Sullivan Show and wowed America with I Wanna Hold Your Hand. We kids used to play stacks of Beatles 45 rpm vinyls and shoot pool on an oversized pool table above a garage and eat candy. I still remember that sad day when Lennon was shot. I was newly married and working in the oil industry. Definately, without Lennon, there was no Beatles. But I figure that if he hadn't been shot, there still would not have been a Beatles reunion.

Any Beatles detractors should listen to Julia from The White Album. If your tastes run to the rough side, Helter Skelter is solid rock. Glass Onion is a worthy example of 60s rock at its best. A few years ago, there was a radio broadcasters election as what was the best song ever, the choice: 'In My Life' by the Beatles. It's a nice song, but not my own favorite.

Another great old Beatles tune is The Ballad Of John and Yoko. I remember the first time I heard it: I was with my parents at a dog show in L.A. (We had Newfoundlands.) I cut out from the boring dog show scene and was hanging out on the beach at Santa Monica. And blaring out from loud speakers on the pier was The Ballad of John and Yoko. I was mesmerized. (that's the song that generated the big controversy about the Beatles claiming to being more popular than Jesus Christ. The line in the song was "They're gonna crucify me!") You had to be there to know what it was like in those days.

I talk to myself all the time. I'm my best audience and I never tire of listening to me. And you don't know anything about the Beatles, I can tell! Where you are, you ought to hear Rocky Racoon. Good vibes and good luck in Montana.
