If peak oil will hurt our economies, what will peak energy and peak resources do?

The only answer is a shift to an economy not based on continual growth
Instead it must be based on sustainability

All the hippy idealists in the 60's were essentially right, just ahead of their time
A bit like Da Vinci's was right about the helicopter, or copernicus

If we are still here in 50 or 100 years our economies will be totally different and almost unrecognisable from today

We actually have to replace what the goal of life is!
Right now, its make money and own stuff. Try not to die before retiring
In future it should be about having time to do your own thing, money and possessions are not important anymore

Hard times are times with no food, water or shelter

Most of the stuff thats churned out the consumptionist economy is not essential to life in any way

Secondly the hippy culture never died - it went underground

I agree. Some analysis should be done on what we really need and what we don't need. I was in a Right Aid drug store the other day. Row after row of crap Halloween crap--most of it made in China.

Walk around a store like this. Look at what is necessary for a life in which one spends time with family, has enough nutrition, etc.

Very little in that store is necessary. Now go to the shop next door. And next door. Very little that is absolutely necessary.
