$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')url=http://www.vision42.org/]vision42 is a citizens' initiative to re-imagine and upgrade surface transit in Midtown Manhattan, with a low-floor light rail line running river-to-river along 42nd Street within a landscaped pedestrian boulevard. It is sponsored by the Institute for Rational Urban Mobility, a New York-based not-for-profit corporation. (link)[/url]

I'm also not sure why they chose 42nd Street, given that the 7 train already makes three stops along it. There are very few east-west streets in Manhattan with crosstown subways: 59th (kind of), 42nd, and 14th. Why not do it on 34th, which is more of a shopping street than 42nd, includes high-traffic areas like Madison Square Garden, Penn Station, and Herald Square, and whose only crosstown option is the slowest bus route in the city? ...skip... The winner of the 2005 Pokey is...the M34 cross-town, for a second year. The M34 averaged 3.4 miles per hour at 12 p.m., close to the 3.0 m.p.h. maintained by the average person walking.
