$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'Y')esterday, ExxonMobil announced quarterly profits of nearly $10 billion, about $75,000 a minute. These profits come at the same time an ABC News poll finds 72 percent of Americans believe "big oil" is taking advantage of the hurricanes to drive up gas prices.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')Is there any good news for American consumers?
Yes. Now that big oil has these record-breaking profits, they have an incentive to put more money into drilling and refining. That means that supply should go up, which should drive the price down. In the past, big oil companies didn't have the mega-profits to put into drilling for more oil and building more refineries.

:Hope for Gas Consumers

 And the Earth is flat.

I bet Big Oil Companies are ramping up security. Heck the Gas prices are cheaper now than they were before the Hurricanes.

What's your point? 90% of americans probably believe in some mthological god. 40% in Creationism and probably many in ghosts, UFOs and so on. Cripes, half even voted for George Bush.

The Americans 'believing' in something is hardly an endorsement.

And, according to half of Americans, thoughts like Fossilnut's above post should be subjected to greater government scrutiny and/or approval prior to posting.

The disconnect from reality, and everything will turn out for the better misconception.

How long will it take for peak oil to sink into the American physique?
It will be interesting to watch.

Physique? Do you mean psyche? Some would say that Big Oil already sticks it up the American physique.

They are right for blaming big oil, but they're blaming them for all the wrong reasons while being fully ignorant of the depletion aspect...

didn't exxon basically say they weren't going to
a) invest much in alternatives because they had tried and failed doing that already and they were an oil/gas company
b) not invest much in finding more oil etc

was on some yahoo page after the earnings, and it doesn't surprise me tbh

also a scary amount of americans are dumb, i mean look how many of them voted bush.

A better question would be, will it ever ? I could foresee a world, maybe a hundred or more years in the future, where no oil is being pumped and the die off has already passed, 'all because of big oil', say the people of the time.
