Have you forgotten hurricanes already? Short attention span.
How about 'hypercanes':

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'H')ypercanes is a speculative attempt to explain mass species extinctions 245 million years ago. Computer models showed that continent-sized super-storms with winds averaging 600 kilometres per hour could be produced if oceans warmed to an incredible 45 to 50 degrees C. Such temperatures are impossible today barring a massive meteor strike or gigantic underwater volcano eruption.

I'm glad we don't live forever, because it would be just a matter of time before one of these things kills us.

I read about them in the book cited above. The quote was from an article that popped up with a google search for 'hypercane'. Interesting tidbits from that book: The fossil remains of a flightless bird that was ten feet tall and a dominant predator was found in Florida in 1963. Also, there were once rhinoceroses as tall as a two-story building in the US. The past is weirder than we can imagine and so will the future be. Kind of glorious if you think about it.

There is something peculiar about the bird flu story: 65 people have died from it and it has a very high mortality rate, but there are no known cases of person to person transmission. Everyone who got it got it from birds, not other people. We keep being warned, "It could mutate!" Well sure it could, and ebola could mutate, or HIV could mutate so that it becomes transmissible by mosquitos. The point is that is hasn't mutated, so why all the talk about military quarantines over something that hasn't happened?

There is a point there. Actually, it almost makes more sense to worry about AIDS mutating to a form that is much more contagious, or this year's common flu mutating to a form that is more dangerous, or resistant TB becoming more contagious, or <insert your favorite disease here>...

Lets see how it pans out

Urgent Call From Carlos Barrios, Mayan Elder

“First there was water, then there was air, then there will be dirt (earth), then there will come fire”. (Carlos Barrios)

I can tell only this much…Carlos said the water was the Indian Ocean tsunami, the air was Katrina/Rita, the earth or dirt is not only the recent Pakistan quake killing over 30,000 people, but more and larger to come. The fire will be the coming volcanoes; not one but many. The time period is not 2012 or 2007, it is “now” and will continue and escalate over the next 18 months.
Let us make him who shall nourish and sustain us. What shall we do to be invoked; to be remembered in the earth.
We have tried with our first creatures but we could not make them venerate us.
So let us try to make obedient respectful beings who shall
