PGP Alternatives

Does anyone have any PGP alternatives? The latest version I have is 6.5.1 Free Edition, and I know that 9.0 offeres disk encryption, email encryption, and secure erasure. Does anyone have a free program equivilant to PGP 9.0? [edited by SPG due to discussion of illegal activity], available? My only requirement is that is must run on WinXP Pro, and WinXP x64. It must also support 4096 bits of encrypton. Also it would be of great help if it could use IDEA based encryption. A GUI would be nice, but is not nessecary. Any suggestions on a replacement?

I'm sticking to the free version since I don't really want to use warez for this. Mine is PGP 6.5.8 for day-to-day file encryption, for email I use WinPT/GPG.

If you want disk/volume encryption, it gets a little bit more complicated. If you are *not* using WinXP, you can use E4M, an excellent freeware volume encryption utility. If you *are* using WinXP *and* you want volume encryption, then unfortunately you may have to resort to warez ...

Seems like it meets all my requirements. Will it take my pre-existing PGP keys, or will I have to re-encrypt everything? I found some other utilities that would help greatly though.

You should use a firewall, not because of the government, but because of hackers and spammers using systems to do DDOS attacks and stuff like that.

Nothing much, just financial transactions, e-mails, and the occasional classified CIA document ... nah, just kidding :lol:

Yeah, seriously though, elroy is right - you should have a firewall at least, especially if your PC is connected to "always-on" broadband.

There are thousands of "script kiddies" out there who have nothing better to do but probe all the available addresses they can, and execute hostile scripts to try to take over your computer.

If they succeed, your computer may be used as a staging ground for further attacks on other computers, to host illegal material (warez, kiddie porn, etc), which *you* may be liable for (it's your IP and connection).

I used to work in a sorta cyberwarfare dept (no worries, I'm on the good guys' team), and I've seen how easy it can sometimes be to take over a PC completely. Do be careful.
