I was an only child, but I lived almost 10 miles out in the country. My cousin who has a almost 2 years younger lived less then half a mile away, so we essentially grew up together. My parents would babysit him and vice versa.
I think that was really the best situation. I was an only child who had a sibling I didnt have to live with but we stil formed the bond sometimes seen among close siblings.

The trouble with siblings is sibling rivalries. They can be avoided if parents
are aware and know what to do, but many don't. It's an awesome responsibility to teach siblings to love each other.
