First there was duct tape, now the energyhog!

What's on your mind?
General interest discussions, not necessarily related to depletion.

First there was duct tape, now the energyhog!

Unread postby aahala » Thu 06 Oct 2005, 00:06:52

A couple of years ago, Homeland Security wanted us to buy duct tape
to defend the family against terrorist attacks, now we have the
energyhog complete with a website:

http://www.energyhog.org/

Are Washington officials eight years old, or do they believe we are?
Cartoon figures for everyone. :)

*yawn*
Put blinds up, turn the thermostat down and replace incandescents with CFLs. No mention of the 2 SUVs parked in the driveway, though.

A simple bulleted list would have saved the government probably $100,000 to make this crap.

Well, perhaps it's actually aimed at kids.

Wait, no, that's giving BushCo waaaayyyy too much credit...

I just had a thought. The Bush "administration" was effectively telling people not to conserve. Now that he's changed tack, he seems to have decided to point the finger at the people, and absolve himself and his "administration" of any responsibility.

Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black to me.

Exactly. Nothing about leaving the TV on for 6 hours. Nothing about parasitic loads like power cubes (answering machines, phones, anything needing conversion to DC power that you plug in with a little black power cube). Nothing about the size of McMansions that drive energy consumption up. Nothing about living in the distant suburbs which increases commute consumption. etc, etc.

I know. Consider it "advanced" stuff. And yes, seems absurd that George Walker Bush urges the American populus to conserve. I read that that headline as well Friday last week...

"Advanced" what? -- "neighbor-annoying?" "bandwidth-hogging?"

Actually, it's not absurd that Chimpy [smilie=munky2.gif] urges Murkans [smilie=new_usa.gif] to conserve -- what's absurd is that he hasn't done it before, probably won't do it again, and doesn't really mean it.

Ok the translation was crap but it's a nordic thing used to give protection and make it's carrier irresistibly attractive to the opposite sex. If there is another meaning/use I'm not able to track it down.

The name was helmet of the fear or something like that.

It would appear to be a knockoff of an obscure nordic amulet (the helmet of fear) which protects the bearer, can make them invisible, irresistible to the oppisite sex, etc...
