Money motivates people to work.

Does it? All the jobs I've done and wanted to do well in because I enjoy them. It motivates some people to a tremendous degree (Adam Smith's economic man). In polls most people just want to be comfortable, financially secure and feel they have done a good job; not pressed a few buttons.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', 'Y')ou crack me up, PeakKY. I only work with my hands and I work maybe 2 hours per day for money. So I only have to work half as hard as you do. Why are you working so hard? And why do you waste so much time pretending to be working? Wouldn't you rather be doing something else?

I don't consider it hard work. I'm using my mind to solve problems, which I actually enjoy. When I'm not solving problems I'm very bored. I would rather be a porn star, but I just don't have the equipment for that job. :)

regarding the OP:

people need to stop looking at peak oil that way and instead see it as a challenge and an opportunity

ya a challenge to find food and jobs in what will be one of the roughest depressions in the history of manking. An opportunity to see how the government really will act and why we are all fundementally fucked.

However, I don't think we will be going back to the hunter-gatherer lifestyle. It simply won't happen.

yes, you could look at it that way. however, peak oil presents many opportunities to strengthen yourself in a variety of ways. for example, investing with a peak-oil mindset has earned me thousands and thousands of dollars i otherwise would not have earned. this money goes toward acquiring preps to make me more prepared. thus, peak oil has terrible consequences, but also presents the opportunity to prepare yourself to deal with these consequences.

although, it won't work for everyone. for every dollar i've made, someone else lost a dollar. as i understand it, stock options and futures are pretty much a zero-sum game.

Money motivates people to work. Otherwise they'd just hang around waiting for Mother Nature to provide everything to them for free, and die young of diseases that could easily be cured. It's a fake altruism that is the root of the problem. "Oh, money doesn't really matter much to me, as long as the government provides me free food. Oh, money doesn't really matter much to me, as long as the government provides me free health care. Oh, money doesn't really matter much to me, as long as the government provides me free housing." Sure, money doesn't matter, as long as you demand the government give you everything for free.

"Just because you cant see "it" does not mean that "it" does not exist"
This is simply the limits of your imagination.
Sad to see we reached them so quickly!!!
If you cannot imagine a world without money how can you imagine a world without oil? without natural gas?
Money is a tool - a crutch rather.
One day we will evolve beyond it.

Hm. People who get bored don't have much imagination, in my opinion.
