I disagree with both bobcousins and dollyp and I don't consider myself to have made any mistake at all.
If we are by nature, irrational and stupid, we wouldn't still be here. We would have wiped ourselves out a long time ago. Maybe I'm clinging to the last of my hope, but I refuse to believe we are out of control of our actions, at any level. If my belief is truly wrong, then my contempt for humanity is more justified than I would have liked to believe it.
Saying we can't control ourselves is too easy and a cop-out. I subscribe to the idea that it is entirely possible for our kind to drastically improve the way we live, but our descision not to is more conscious than impulse driven. I'm not saying we don't act impulsively, I admit we do, but to a point. We can't possibly be as instinct driven as "lesser" species, or there is no way we could have accomplished all that we did.
Dollyp, talking about being amused by people that get stressed out by human behavior sounds really lame to me. Damn right I'm stressed by human behavior, the President is human (or something vaguely resemblant to one) that is reason enough to be stressed.
Vision without action is a dream, action without vision is a nightmare.
