A word of advice Raphael.

Maybe you should consider providing some more background info when you post. I guarantee you will attract more conversation and possibly help to enlighten fellow truth seekers such as myself.

Trying to read your posts is the equivalent of a freshman reading through a PHD Quantum Physics text book.

I guess I have to ask, how do you know your "Truth" is more True than someone else's "Truth?"

The quandry is that the knowledge of the past is discredited in many but there isn't anything to replace it so any nonsense can come forth, even from a would be stoner shaman. Clear thinking is long gone except in scientific circles where they are subject to intellectual fashions to the point where that will fail too. The situation is hopeless.

I would like to note to those that may not understand Raphael's message of:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '6') + 6 + 6 is the structure of Carbon 12.

is refering to 6 protons, 6 neutrons, and 6 electrons.. (if someone didn't know basic chemistry...)

I thought the connection fascinating - as well as wonderfully ridiculous. As I find many of Rapheal's connections...

[I'm going to be half-Rapheal-like here. Half-stoner. (Wait a second..).]

Although, I do loosely hold my own wonderfully ridiculous thoughts that someone 'Intelligently designed' something - that is, the term:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Wikipedia', 'T')he Id (Latin, "it" in English, "Es" in the original German) represented primary process thinking — our most primitive need gratification type thoughts. The Id, Freud stated, constitutes part of one's unconscious mind. It is organized around primitive instinctual urges of sexuality, aggression and the desire for instant gratification or release. Freud borrowed the term Id from the "Book of the Id" by Georg Groddeck, a pathfinder of psychosomatic.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Dictionary.com', 'P')sychosomatic: Of or relating to a disorder having physical symptoms but originating from mental or emotional causes.

I also shall apply the psychosomatic illness as feeling good when there is no physical thing or experience to feel good about. Feeling good about nothing.

Why the hell am I quoting Freudian crap? Because not only do I believe this 'psychosomatic illness' is essentially why we have religion.. particulary the 'why' to the 'how' of the question: How did the Born-again movement gain so much steam in America?

Many born-agains describe a religious experience in Church or in a camp or bible-reading/verse-memorizing class. Its a big wash of feeling - warmth. Many are convinced that it is religious in nature. (I say it is emotional masturbation.) This is our resultant 'psychosomatic illness' from our persuance of Id; Id is our 'original' sin - picking the fruits of the Tree of Knowledge and organizing them around instant gratification, aggression, and sexuality.

[Aside]I'm probably applying it to the Born-again's mostly because I have direct experience (although I note I don't have much experience in other religions beyond Born-again, some protestant, and Catholic) and because it's the newest trendy ultra-uber-hypocritical religion sweeping the nation. Although, (radical?) muslims may also have Id in their daily prayers or something; I'm ignorant of it all. Though, the 71 virgins up in heaven for committing an act of aggression is very Id. Edit add: Overall, whenever I say born-again I also refer to the whole Id mindset - the cultural crappiness that pervades our culture, the very basest of human instinct. The timeliness of the emergence of born-again beltway culture in the height of the crap-culture I don't think is 'just' coincidental, but related and linked. [/Aside]

America may be described as Id: It is organized around primitive instinctual urges of sexuality, aggression and the desire for instant gratification or release. It may be Id or ID or humanity and the present human western (what else is there?) culture - and like Raphael ridiculously puts our cultural crappiness: The Tree of Knowledge. With more and more knowledge, we build a society of instant gratification, aggression, and sexuality. It's not where happiness, nor where sustainability is found. It's passing... like instant gratification. Unsustainable... (like the 'fruits' of the Tree of Knowledge.)

The ID movement commands, "You shall learn to worship this way - we must get it in the textbooks. Science is just a theory, so is ours. Learn it as well." It is an attempt at brainwashing that doesn't have to succeed to be put in curriculum to succeed - it just needs the press to propose it as equivalent or as a debate that has merit to succeed. Already, some born-agains are woshipping Id as well as ID. Thoroughly convinced of its sincerity and its merit by the equal footing it has with 'traditional' science. This is the Tree of Knowledge being corrupted by 'original' sin - the id.

Some born-agains though stick to the connection of Science and Religion/Myth (much like Raphael - even if he doesn't think so) and say that the Big Bang, evolution, and bio-genesis is God's way of creating a perfectly orderly universe - he is after-all perfect. If the universe was illogical, it would disprove God's perfection.

And this connection I think is much like Rapheal's in alot of ways. It is negotiating - uniting. The Id takes - unbinds - it furthers Entropy and violates a commandment or two. (God, this is ridicously esoteric...)

Deep Breath.

Rapheal is advocating the return to Eden or the Tree of Life. My picture of it is a bunch of 'pagan' sun-worshipping, harvest celebrating, hobbit-hippies in a land of the Eden-Shire. It doesn't seem all that appetizing as I sit here in my room on my computer communicating thoughts to people I will never meet. (Doesn't it seem awfully laughable to advocate the neo-tribal-eco-one-with-gaia way of life in the medium that may offer the most resistance and the least likely to respond favorably?)

[Aside]Not to put Tolkien down - Tolkien is some of the reason why Catholicism is my favorite of the religions I know. He is a symbol of how Catholicism has its heroes even if some of the priesthood has been corrupted with child-molesters or the CIA. Catholicism is also my favorite because it has some sustainablilty/conservation stuff in the catechism and that we should be stewards of the earth, etc. even if they don't make it an official decree...

Also, that your sins aren't forgiven automatically even when you say sorry to God. Although, today confession to the priest is hollow. Earlier, priests were leaders of the community and stuff - and that mattered (as they could probably do something behind the scenes if it was possible - I don't think the hands-off approach was entirely followed if it was bad for the community). So, it may be hollow ritual now, but it had meaning before...

Argh! I really don't mean to be hateful to people who ascribe themselves to be Born-again. Its just that the religion is set up to be exactly in tune with the culture. Guilt is washed away with nothing being done. Pleasure is gained from nothing. The focus on the self (Jesus loves you, Jesus forgives you, Something happens to you) as the reciever. Its just empty to me. ARGH! - I'm not hateful. I just don't see anything in it. By the way: I'm pretty much aethist if that matters.[/Aside]

Conclusion:

Rapheal's connections are an awesome paganly/pseudo-science bunch of crap with roundabout ways of re-telling another version of our anti-culture civilization (in more ways than one). It seems like he is establishing a dogma of a new anti-anti-culture civlization uniting ('catholic') universal religion. Or something like that. A scientology with purpose other than tax breaks...

Fake Edit Add:
Criticisms either don't understand him, aren't comfortable in seeing new dogmas (as well as never seeing religious esoteric writing crap - Catholicism has quite the amount of crap - much like how most of genes in human DNA are junk just in for the ride). Or maybe they don't see anything new or worthwhile in his ideas... (or maybe you don't like smoking from the 'Tree of Life'... ) If only we had an 'elven' mindset...

Contributing to the dogma,

One who loves foolish thoughts. Greater wisdom will follow from the mistake.
