What sort of paper is the Daily Mail?

LOL Why do you ask?

It's read mainly by right wing middle-class women, big supporter of the royal family and has a lot of pet moans. It's very into lifestyle things, diets, issues of the day, a lot of opinion. It's extremely biased in it's outlook and owned by a powerful capitalist family.

Haha.

I'm guessing there was probably a big conspiracy article published recently which is why you're asking.

The Daily Mail is a strongly right-wing tabloid newspaper. Diatribes against immigration and socialist policies are a specialty.

It is also particularly renowned for conspiracy theories, health scares, 'alternative' stories (fad health techniques, UFO stories). The more ill-founded, the better. Facts are never allowed to get in the way of a good story.

Yeah they do some wako stories from time to time. Few years back we had a full solar eclipse and they did a piece on the end of the world and how this man thought he was going to go to heaven for predicting the end of the world and not having sex. Of course it didn't happen; the man must have felt cheated. They also believe nano technology will turn the world grey and ladies second school running cars don’t cause climate change.

It's a serious newspaper, but most people regard it as a bit of a joke along with 'the Guardian' (its arch rival) and 'The Sun'.

Wildwell

The only serious thing about the Daily Mail is that people who read it think they are getting the same indepth analysis of a broadsheet.

Thats serious because its dangerous.

The Guardian is what many would call wooley minded liberal pap, but they're not in the same league.

The Daily Mail is crap tabloid dressed up as crap broadsheet. I hate it.

Right; we have the same types of papers here. The National Enquirer, the Globe, the Sun, and so on. Usually sold at the checkout stands at supermarkets.

Some people do read that stuff as pure entertainment, being wholly aware that it's neither news nor truth.

Sir Humphrey Appleby to the Rt. Hon. James Hacker in "Yes, Prime Mininster":

"The Times is read by the people who run the country. The Daily Mirror is read by the people who think they run the country. The Guardian is read by the people who think they ought to run the country. The Morning Star is read by the people who think the country ought to be run by another country. The Independent is read by people who don't know who runs the country but are sure they're doing it wrong. The Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country. The Financial Times is read by the people who own the country. The Daily Express is read by the people who think the country ought to be run as it used to be run. The Daily Telegraph is read by the people who still think it is their country. And the Sun's readers don't care who runs the country providing she has big tits."

http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/The-Daily-Mail

The Daily Mail and its Sunday edition the Mail on Sunday are British newspapers, first published in 1896. For many years, it has had a right-wing editorial slant. For most of its history it was a broadsheet but is currently published in a tabloid format. Its chief rival, the Daily Express, with a similar political stance and target audience, sells less than half as many copies. As of 2004 the paper's publisher, Daily Mail and General Trust, is a FTSE 100 company and the newspaper has a circulation of over 2 million giving it the second largest circulation of any English language newspaper, and the twelfth highest of any newspaper.
