It's amazing to see the sprawl of urbanization and further out, suburbanization in a country that is woefully lacking in basic infrastructure capacity. Most US sprawl did not even occur until some kind of improved road access was constructed. Not so there.


Yes, it sucks. Have you heard about the new "world class" airport, NAIA 3 that isn't opening because of the greedy buisness people. (it's complete too...) I'm glad that Manila is developing the LRT/MRTs though, rather than more highways.

')Another interesting thing is the proliferation off walled off private neighborhoods. They were something else to visit. Whole sections of the city stuck behind 15 or 20 foot walls, protected by armed guards.


Most of my relatives live in one of those! I think it's kind of scary... and the armed guards don't really do anything either, they just sit in the litte building where they open the gate for the cars and read magazines or watch tv, I mean some robber or whatever could just shoot them there... I suppose it's all for the placebo affect.

I wouldn't say that though, It's more like a peace of middle class/upper class 1st world in the middle of middle class third world conditions. The walled off mansions in the middle of the "normal" houses.

')I remember when my parents still lived there. It was always hot and traffic took for ever. I remember one trip we made from Makati to the airport to pick up my aunt took 2 hours...and the total distance we traveled was 4 miles. Thats less than walking speed.


Ha thats funny, one time our relatives picked us up from the airport and we took the not-well-travelled route among the "backstreets" and stuff, it took us lik 30 minutes to reach their house in Pasig, but they said that it would've taken 2 hours if we took the highway, lol.

Well, thats not *entirely* true. The section with the ducks is a regular park. The photo in question is a section of the park with a rose garden in it.
So no, that part probably isnt "typical" however the rest is.

Otherwise, I'm not joking. I watched a Discovery show (Or some such educational show) one time. Some Green Peace workers were over in Africa helping the poor. At the time I thought "Wow, thats really cool!"

Its called Loose Park. You can find it by googling "Loose Park Kansas City". Its located around 50th and Wornall. Its actually not the best part of town, but not the worst by far. I wouldnt recommend taking the family down there at nighttime, although me and my friends have gone on occasion to play some hacky sack and just hang out.
Very nice park though. Kansas City has alot of water fountains, maybe I'll make a point here in the next few weeks to run around town and snap a few pics for this thread.

Loose Park is included in this list BTW.

I've been to Loose and Swope out of that list.
Swope park is FUGGIN HUGE. 8O

If I'm correct, i think its almost 2,000 acres.

Of course I'm a DumoCrat liberal, I thought that was obvious! :lol: Lately, though, I don't know if my beliefs are aligning with the democrats either. Maybe I'm becoming more of a nihilist than anything? We'll see. I am no victim of anything. I have never received any direct government assistance, nor will I ever accept any. I have a college degree and a career for now, thank you very much. My grandfather spent much of the time during the depression a homeless orphan child, but later became a successful dentist. Even during his more conservative later days, I don't think he was quite as far toward the rugged-individualism side of the scale as you, and he was probably one of the most self-made men that I've ever met, if there is such a thing. In the metaphysical sense, we do not know why we are born as humans with the characteristics we have as an individual, nor where. Thus, I find your perception of yourself, as well as your perception of the poor, a bit ridiculous.
