That movie about an oil crisis called "The Deal" starring Christian Slater will be out on DVD in August. Available for pre-order from Amazon. Guess it will never make nation-wide release in theaters.

I'd suppose it's not so much on peak oil, more on Slater and his sidekick, err, fornicating ...

It wasn't a very good movie. Here I'll spoil the ending for you so you don't have to sit through Slaterfest 2005.

SPOILERS ---> The oil isn't drilled in Russia but in Arabia, which is at war with the US, thus importing that oil is illegal. The Russians launder it through a shell company that is being bought by an American company because otherwise the French will buy it and sell the oil to Americans anyway, pocketing the profits. Slater is the investment banker who is supposed to underwrite the deal and perform due diligence, except he finds out the truth!! Slater gets blackmailed and signs the deal, then heads to the justice department to turn himself in. The Senator of New York tells him he won't press charges and that he did America a great service.

Slater to ecobimbo girlfriend: "They don't care where it comes from, they just want it." That's the whole lesson of the movie right there. Cue credits.
