$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Vexed', 'A')s someone who has "made it to the top the heap" by caring about others, I find your comments ridiculous and nonchalant.
You can boil everything down to a Darwinian perspective if you want; but, in most people's lives, it is teamwork, compassion, and trust, that brings out the best in them, as well as those around them.
Perhaps I am putting words into your mouth, but I feel your post says: Its me against the rest of the world. And isn't that the attitude that has America in such dire straights with the rest of the planet right now?
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he most fortunate. Don't waste time with useless emotions such as guilt.
Mentally preparing yourself for a die-off are we?
Yes, I am. It's going to happen. It took me some time to come to terms with the idea. I rejected it, I denied it, I negotiated with it. It seems inevitable given the facts and the history of man.
So my comments are not nonchalant or shallow or ridiculous nor was my belief easily derived. Through good fortune (we found an entirely new hemisphere to expand into) and some very clever inventiveness Western Civilization came out on top of the world at this period in history; there's no guilt in that and certainly I don't feel responsible for fact that we made so many correct decisions and others did not.
My wife, who is also a "care giver", accepted the idea of a massive die off of the human population much more readily than I.
As far as I know that's a band not a situation the USA faces in the world.
