$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'N')ot this sorry myth again. Alcohol (not pot or lsd or cocaine or even heroin) kill millions of American.
Peter, try to keep up with current events in the real world. You need to stop wallowing in myths and begin paying more attention to the current medical data.
The paper in PNAS documenting the rising death toll among white Americans specifically pointed to increases in drug-related deaths as one cause of the overall increase in White mortality rates. Yes, alcohol-related deaths are a very serious problem and have always been a problem---but there is a large increase in DRUG-related deaths that is helping to drive the increasing death rate for middle aged whites. The increase in drug-related deaths among whites is so large that while whites in 1999 had a poisoning mortality rate for ages 45–54 that was 10.2 per 100,000 higher for black non-Hispanics than white non-Hispanics;
by 2013, drug poisoning mortality was 8.4 per 100,000 higher for whites.
The change in all-cause mortality for white non-Hispanics 45–54 is largely accounted for by an increasing death rate from external causes, mostly increases in drug and alcohol poisonings and in sui- cide. (Patterns are similar for men and women when analyzed sep- arately.) In contrast to earlier years, drug overdoses were not concentrated among minorities. In 1999, poisoning mortality for ages 45–54 was 10.2 per 100,000 higher for black non-Hispanics than white non-Hispanics; by 2013, poisoning mortality was 8.4 per 100,000 higher for whites. Death from cirrhosis and chronic liver diseases fell for blacks and rose for whites. After 2006, death rates from alcohol- and drug-induced causes for white non-Hispanics exceeded those for black non-Hispanics; in 2013, rates for white non- Hispanic exceeded those for black non-Hispanics by 19 per 100,000.---from the PNAS report
Face it, dude. The popular culture in the USA is now pro-drug, and drugs wind up killing a lot of people. States across the US are legalizing pot, and the Feds have stopped most prosecutions. We even elected a former pothead as President who publicly supports decriminalizing pot.
The most popular politicians in the country (Obama and Hillary), and the Ds and the political left and the libertarians on the rights, and the MSM and popular culture in the USA now are all ok with drug use----it is any surprise drug use is rising and more drug deaths are occurring?
