That Pesky DSM Won't Go Away

Unread postby EnemyCombatant » Tue 14 Jun 2005, 13:33:20

I am starting this thread to keep everyone updated on the revelations of the DSM.

Here are two great resources:

www.downingstreetmemo.com
www.afterdowningstreet.org

Here is a link to the memo itself. People, it's only 2 1/2 pages so don't be lazy now.

http://www.downingstreetmemo.com/memo.html

Here is the latest news:

On Thursday June 16, 2005, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Wasserman Room at 430 S Capitol St. SE, Washington, D.C., Rep. John Conyers, Jr., Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, and other Congress Members will hold a hearing on the Downing Street Minutes and related evidence of efforts to cook the books on pre-war intelligence.

The hearings are being held at the Democratic National Committee because the Republicans controlling the House Judiciary Committee refused to permit the ranking Democratic Member to use a room on the Hill

http://www.thehill.com/thehill/export/T ... index.html

(Side Note: If you saw the Patriot Act Expansion Hearing you would completely understand. Please watch that judiciary hearing:

http://www.dembloggers.com/story/2005/6/10/54149/5115 )

· What is a "Resolution of Inquiry"?

This is the first step towards the Impeachment of the President by the
House of Representatives. The Resolution of Inquiry identifies a possible
"High Crime" and asks the House Judiciary Committee to begin an
investigation of that "High Crime" to determine whether Impeachment is
justified by the facts.

While any single Member of Congress can introduce a Resolution of Inquiry,
it has no force until a majority of the House votes to approve it. Since
the House is controlled by a conservative Republican majority, it will be
an uphill battle to get a majority to vote for this Resolution of Inquiry.

That is why we need to build a massive grassroots movement to persuade a
majority of the House to support this Resolution of Inquiry.

I hope you guys take action.
Now why didn't I take the blue pill.

You won't see major media pick this up until there is verifiable confirmation. They are still stinging from the Dan Rather fiasco.
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.

Oh yes they are, and due to our grassroots effort.

We are on the march and the NWO is on the run. (Alex Jones). We need to go for the jugglar (spelling?).

The link below will show you the mainstream news coverage. Slowly but surely it's picking up. But only do to our media targeting campaign. Pick up that phone and call CSpan.

Citizens urged to lobby Congress Members and Senators, and to meet at DNC, which is serving as overflow room.

On Thursday June 16, 2005, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Room HC-9 of the U.S. Capitol, Rep. John Conyers, Jr., Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, and other Congress Members will hold a hearing on the Downing Street Minutes and related evidence of efforts to cook the books on pre-war intelligence.

The hearings had been planned for the Democratic National Committee offices because the Republicans controlling the House Judiciary Committee had refused to permit the ranking Democratic Member to use a large room on the Hill. http://www.thehill.com/thehill/export/T ... index.html

However, the Democrats did have access to a small room in the Capitol, and Congressman Conyers has decided to move the hearings there. This does not indicate any change in position from the Republicans.

Yup... Hate those jugglers...

& mimes too for that matter.

And clowns... there's nothing sadder than an old drunk clown.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Yeah, it looks like the House is making a LITTLE stand against the Patriot Act. Not that Bush just won't veto their "no reading investigations" position! I suspect maybe a lot of them realized this was a way to make a stand that made them look good, without costing them anything. (Even Bush must understand THAT much--no, wait, we're talking about BUSH--never mind!)

How the heck they thought the DSM wasn't gonna get leaked is beyond my comprehension. Guess we should be grateful for small favors, though.

At 2:30pm est the hearing will be aired on CSpan3. If you can't get CSpan3 you can view it via streaming video off their homepage http://www.cspan.org/. I also assume that it will be available via streming video in their archives.

I am very disappointed it's not on CSpan or CSpan2, which is what most people probably have.

... until there is "verifiable confirmation"? The UK has confirmed the memo's authenticity!! And if you listen carefully Bush, nor any of his cronies, ever deny the memo's authenticity either.

Time for Bush, Inc. to be held accountable for fixing the facts, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands (minimum).

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')Watching the Conyers hearings today, I couldn't help getting pumped up. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but it just seems like this thing has finally achieved critical mass. The panel was terrific:

Joe Wilson provided a detailed breakdown of the Niger uranium claim, probably the best single example of the administration's misuse of intelligence and utter disregard for the truth.

Cindy Sheehan put a human face on the issue with her incredibly moving testimony about her son who was killed in action in Iraq.

Ray McGovern delivered a scathing indictment of the Bush administration's corruption of our intelligence agencies, pointing in particular to Cheney's numerous "visits" to the CIA. Anyone who has ever worked under a domineering boss could relate.

John Bonifaz provided a legal framework for understanding what the DSM shows and that, even as things stand today, it represents more than adequate grounds for a Resolution of Inquiry so the House can begin hearings into whether the administration lied to Congress and the American people.

But what was most encouraging was the number of US Representatives who took the time to attend and participate in the hearing, even if only between votes taking place upstairs. The tiny room was packed (a much larger room was available, but the House leadership wouldn't let Conyers use it). There were half a dozen TV cameras and journalists craned their necks to get a view of people speaking.

Just for kicks I checked our site stats as the hearing progressed--we were getting almost one visit every second, and at 27,000 for the day we're already well above our average. But these numbers don't mean nearly as much as the 540,000 signature Conyers got on his letter, or the 122 reps who have now signed on as well.

As Congressman Conyers said in his closing, this is only the beginning of our work. Much more remains to be done. But right now, I feel better about our prospects for getting it done than I have, well, ever.

You can watch the repeat tonight on CSpan2 at 8pm eastern.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')Once the leaks start in a scandal as large as this, they just keep coming. Those who remember Watergate will recall the drip drip drip.

The Guardian newspaper (UK) today named a name. It published a short article describing what the former First Secretary of the British UN delegation, Carne Ross, had to say about the question of whether WMD intel had been manipulated before the war. Carne Ross has been heard from before, in a BBC Panorama program from March 20, 2005. He was quoted twice on the program, which discussed in great detail the manipulation of evidence and public opinion in the year before war broke out (a transcript of the program is available on line here. Here is how today's Guardian describes its interview with Ross:

A key Foreign Office diplomat responsible for liaising with UN inspectors says today that claims the government made about Iraq's weapons programme were "totally implausible".

He tells the Guardian: "I'd read the intelligence on WMD for four and a half years, and there's no way that it could sustain the case that the government was presenting. All of my colleagues knew that, too".

Carne Ross, who was a member of the British mission to the UN in New York during the run-up to the invasion, resigned from the FO last year, after giving evidence to the Butler inquiry.

He thought about publishing his testimony because he felt so angry. But he was warned that if he did he might be prosecuted under the Official Secrets Act.

OMG!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')(KRT) - WASHINGTON - World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz, a prime architect of the Iraq war during his service as Deputy Defense Secretary, said Tuesday that he hasn't read any of the recently disclosed British government memos that call into question his role and that of other senior administration officials in the run-up to war during 2002.

At a breakfast meeting with reporters, Wolfowitz said he hasn't read the memos because he doesn't want to be distracted by history from his new job as head of the world's leading development bank. He returned this weekend from a tour of four African nations.

I was checking the following link yesterday :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_Cabinet ... _Documents
The links to pdfs documents from AP server were removed.
But now someone at http://www.boozle.net/ has made a copy available.

Documents' authenticity can't be proved so as usual, be careful about it.
