No. I mean that the USA and Canda's interests, on the downslope of global oil production and the die-off that results from it, will insure that both of us will want to come out of the situation with our societal structure intact.

If the entire province of Alberta oil sands must be developed to insure our dual survival then that is what will happen.

When you combine the US oil production with Canadian oil sands production, along with the fact both countries can produce a hell of a lot of food, we can weather what is coming. No, it won't be business as usual. But basic survival can happen which is all that I really care about.

Cog, when oil gets scarce Canada may well decide FU USA, we want to nationalize our oil and keep our oil for future generations of Canadians.

Maybe, not entirely unlikely.
Oils just aint oils ..... unless you believe the IEA :)

But Canada will realize that their best long-term survival strategy is to keep the USA happy when the die-off and resource wars begin in earnest.

T. Boone Pickens is at it again so I got to thinking...

Do oil imported by US oil companies also get calculated in the Foreign Oil calculations as well as from nationalized oil nations (i.e., KSA, Venezuela, etc...)? Or do they tallied up as "domestic" oil?

If US oil company's oil imports are part of the foreign oil math, then his argument is kind of invalid no?

Wait until the Iranians start selling oil for gold to the Indians. Then the price will go to whatever the barrel costs in gold. As fiat currencies slip this will become a higher and higher price. We will have to either use only what we produce or buy on the open market. With gold!

You become energy independent if you grow/make/produce your own energy. In Capitalism, there is no "we", I believe that's called Socialism.

Right.
We in Russia are literally sandwiched between oil-hungry China on the south and United States to the North. Indeed, the closest way to the US is via the North Pole, this is the way the ballistic missiles are directed. Only Canada provides a buffer between us and the US. Similarly with Canada - they are sandwiched between the US on the south and China to the north, and Russia is the only buffer between them and the Chinese. I suppose we need to make an economic and military alliance with Canada. So much in common - resource rich, Arctic adjacent, security concerned.

Now, Iceland wants to adopt loonie - will take them with us, to beef up the alliance with the mighty nordic vikings.

Also need another country, for a sound-biting acronym. I suppose we will take Finland with us to form FRICs. With that kind of acronym and the mighty vikings guiding our Arctic shores in their vessels with their swords and shields we have a robust geopolitical construct. We will share the Arctics between us, no enemy stand in our way.

Beware, the FRICs are coming!
