$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'R')ight. I forgot about the tax credits. That must have saved me another $7,000.

With all the Cali debt in the millions and millions, unemployed, homeless, etc, etc going on in Cali and you install a over glorified heater in your home and had Cali tax payers bail you out at a tune of $7000..

Really now and you accuse me of not knowing anything but here you are jacking your state for $7000 so you can be on the WSJ for your 15 minutes of fame..

Don't you have a $70,000 heater in your living room to attend to..
So I take it you believe that long-tern investment is unwise? That prepping for a lower-energy future is wrong? That I am unwise contributing to the social good and a sane environment. Gotta a idea for ya'? Split. Bye. You're in the wrong place

OK PSTARR, in this case, I agree with you. People can argue about the price, yadda yadda, but your intent and prep is your business and shows discipline, so good for you.

Now, a question. Where would you stand on, say, a Plug-in Prius in 2013 once generally available if they pan out and cost well under $30,000 with the $7500 federal energy credit? This for a guy who figures he can drive all electric 5-6 days a week with the 13 mile range (planning and simple lifestyle), and who hopes to use solar roofing panels within 5 years to provide most if not all of the car's electric power.

Is this "bad" because the battery may have issues, even though Toyota claims to have a strong recycling program for their Prius batteries (so far)?

I only ask because I'm curious how consistent you are with the prepping for the lower (hydrocarbon) energy future principle.

Cheers.
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.

Yeah, that's worked out real well, hasn't it. Oooh, the 1984 version, how Orwellian.

Wanna chuck supposed Bible quotes at each other now? Here's one for you:

Isaiah 24:4-6

The earth mourns and withers; the world languishes and withers; the highest people of the earth languish. The earth lies defiled under its inhabitants; for they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore a curse devours the earth, and its inhabitants suffer for their guilt; therefore the inhabitants of the earth are scorched, and few men are left.

Revelations 16:9

And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.
The Fascist accepts life and loves it, knowing nothing of and despising suicide; he rather conceives of life as duty and struggle and conquest, life, which should be high and full, lived for oneself, but not, above all, for others.”

Thank you timmy for perfectly illustrating my concerns about the abilities of a significant portion of the populace to evalutuate anything of significance, let along climate science! I couldn't have asked for better. Don't bother thinking about tomorrow y'all, ignore any tiny signs that humans might be having an adverse impact their environment. Some bloke in an old book said not to worry about it.

I think this is a good point in the conversation to bring up something for you lefties to consider when talking about how to persuade people about the real problems of global warming and climate change...

Note the quantity of (and perhaps quality) of the available religious material that can be used to demonstrate that CC responses are not a set of heretical conspiracies aimed at reducing the influence or harming the harmony of religious communities?

A lesson, perhaps too late though, when you attack a scientist on the anti-agw camp because he sites religious principles you are playing into the hands of the manipulators. By saying he is not credible because he references "the imaginary guy in the sky" ,you give that scientist an imprimatur that he could have never acquired himself in the minds of a good half of the American population. So unless you like reinforcing your adversaries convictions, and reinforcing their base of support, it might be a good idea to think about who you would like to convince, and who does not need any convincing.

To me, it looks like playing to those who cheer loudly, but never needed any convincing in the first place.
Yes we are, as we are,
And so shall we remain,
Until the end.

Americans fundamentalists have been merging their religion with a conspiracy subculture for a couple of decades now.

I don't think you can separate the two because the conspiracy theories seems to be a lot more central to their lives than any religion, and they seem to "know" more about various "conspiracies" and their revenge fantasies where they will get even than they ever knew about the Bible.

For example, the homeschooling movement is specifically a response to escape various anti-Christian "conspiracies." If you're unaware of that, then go do some reading on your own time.
