$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('americandream', 'T')he rich have never acted in the interests of anyone but themselves. It's been proven through the ages. They keep pushing until something gives.

Don't you work as a tax planner for the rich? Weren't you just boasting about how you helped the rich avoid paying any taxes?

John McCain calls Tea Partiers "foolish, bizarre, hobbits"

Unread postby Sixstrings » Wed 27 Jul 2011, 23:32:30

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')ashington (CNN) - On the same day that House Speaker John Boehner told Republicans to "Get your asses in line" and support his debt ceiling proposal, Sen. John McCain also blasted fellow Republicans.

In a Senate floor speech laced with sarcasm and stings, the Arizona Republican aimed especially harsh fire at the tea party Wednesday.

McCain said the movement is "foolish" to think a balanced budget amendment could pass before the August 2 deadline. At one point, McCain read from an op-ed in Wednesday's Wall Street Journal. That article referred to activists as "tea party hobbits" – the little people who inhabit Middle-earth in the Lord of the Rings series.

McCain – 2008's Republican presidential nominee – also blasted as "bizarre" an idea supported by current GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, though McCain did not mention her by name.

McCain's fiery language comes amid competing Democratic and Republican plans to reduce the deficit.

I saw this one coming. Reminds me of the Cultural Revolution in China when they started to turn on each other. The Tea Party hate's liberals but they are really going to hate the Repubs that have turned on them. Its like having your brother stab you in the back and we all know that family fights can get nasty.

Tea Party Activists Target Boehner

As House Speaker John Boehner frantically pieces together a plan to rescue the nation from financial disaster next week, members of the Tea Party movement who helped propel Republicans back into power last fall are calling for his head.

“Boehner must go,” Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips said in his blog on Wednesday, calling the speaker a “big government Republican” who “worships at the altar of massive spending.”

“We need a speaker who is a leader. We need someone with courage and vision. Boehner has none of those qualities. He is not a leader,” Phillips wrote. “John Boehner simply wishes to be the manager in chief of the welfare state. His vision of the GOP and the speakership involves golfing, drinking and not rocking the boat.”

Wow that's radical..

Ok so John Boehner is the "manager in chief of the welfare state" and "has to go." 8O

You know what, it's starting to look like there might not be a deal here.. Boehner is badly weakened and a weak Speaker can't put votes together. If you notice all through the negotiations he always has Cantor hovering over him. It's widely reported that Cantor wants his job.. bad situation for Boehner here, he's trying to lead what are really two political parties.

What Republicans are going to have to do is ditch the Tea Party and form a coalition with the corporatist Left.

That seems possible, albeit only after US default...
I am getting convinced that there is really only a very slim chance for a deal before Aug 2.
Self destruct mechanisms built into American (and global...) economy are now being powered up and about to be activated...

At least some peoples here will stop calling Tea Party to be just another Republicans.
It is also possible that Tea Party and Far Left Democrats will make some alliance of convenience aimed at bringing existing order down and Republicans will close ranks with corporate Democrats and fight to extend status quo for a while more.

I always feared that the tea party will make the world a darker place (starvation, war, climate change, destruction...).

Now I'm a more hopeful that they will take down the US first.

How soon the Ad hom deleted. forget the 2010 elections and try to re-write history. The Tea Party isn't going to disappear anytime soon. Establishment Republicans would be well advised to remember that. Boehner can be replaced with someone more in line with true conservatism. But make no mistake, the rock solid majority for the Republicans in the House will be repeated in the 2012 elections.

That's an insult to hobbits. The Tea Party is the product of bringing together the undereducated and lesser intelligent of the population with pep rallys and sloganeering, and manipulating them into a force in support of large corporations.

But like Frankenstein's monster, ultimately they couldn't be controlled.

Now that they are assembled and reinforcing each other's nonsense, they are living in a bubble of unreality, demanding the unreasonable and the impossible, and not understanding why it's not possible.

They are like the unruly child that throws a tantrum when they are told to "put it back" at the grocery store.
"For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst and provide for it." - Patrick Henry

In the book, "The Fourth Turning" the authors analyze history in terms of generations, recognizing a recurring pattern of four generations, and an 80 to 90 year cyclical recurrence of four economic phases, recovery, peak, decline and crisis, which full cycle overlaps the generations. We are in the crisis period now, which began about 2006 with the peak of the real estate bubble. The crisis periods resolve themselves in violent conflict; 1775 American Revolution, 1861 Civil War, 1941 World War II, and the next violent period due sometime around 2015 - 2020.

One of the things the authors point out that the people who occupy the seats of power during the crisis period are uncompromising, which is one of the reasons that the crisis erupts in violence. The generation that was born before 1941 is fading away, with few of them, with their compromising inclinations, remaining in power. They are being replaced with the baby boomer generation, and this is a spoiled generation, unwilling to compromise. Look at the old fellows like McCain who pride themselves on being able to compromise, compared to those drawn from the next generation like Obama and Boehner. The political battles should become progressively more divisive over the next several years.

Combine the the pain and suffering that comes during the crisis period with the uncompromising attitude of many of those in power, and you have the mix for violence. If you don't notice the growing division in this country, you are not paying attention.

It is funny that McCain, who physically looks and moves like something out of Harry Potter would be calling other people Hobbits.

John McCain comes from the privileged class. Those of us who voted for him had to hold our nose with both hands. He had so many political leanings similar to his opponent the country opted for a younger variant. His reference to Tea Partiers as being from middle earth may not be too far off. As I recall it was a hobbit that destroyed the ring of power and undid the machinations of the dark lords that would have enslaved the earth. McCain is a representative of the military industrial complex.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '')I wish it were possible to obtain a single amendment to our Constitution. I would be willing to depend on that alone for the reduction of the administration of our government; I mean an additional article taking from the Federal Government the power of borrowing. Absolutely hilarious, so MoveOn, Daily Kos , Bill Mayer, etc are all in line with Obama? Assorted nutjobs from the left are calling for a primary contest against Obama. Who cares what this leftover, loser rino says? It just drives you libs absolutely bat$H!& crazy that there is an organized conservative organization now, thank you dear leader O for creating this entity with your incompetence
"One of the things the authors point out that the people who occupy the seats of power during the crisis period are uncompromising, which is one of the reasons that the crisis erupts in violence."
You mean like Pelosi, Reid, and Obama 2008 - 2010? Unlike your post, the people had a choice, they acted upon it, it was called the 2010 elections. And from the most recent polling coming out from battle states, it looks like a GOP landslide in 2012

Poor Cid, again reality escapes him, evaluation of the Tea Party showed a more educated group than the general public, thus the subsequent attack of this being an "elitist " group. Cid, more like the adults who say to the lefts insatiable spending habits, no child this must stop, you must pay your bills.

Yep those dumb Tea Partiers. 6 months ago the president wanted a "clean" debt limit increase with no attachments. That was not to be. Now the question is how much to be cut. O presented a pathetic budget that was rejected by his own Democrat controlled Senate. Seems to me the Tea Party is guiding if not controlling the debate at this point.

Cigars, VM, you want to bring up Cigars? Didn't that lead to the last Dem president getting impeachment proceedings against him? ROTFLMAO

Actually, I don't think the Republicans are any more serious about balancing the budget or holding the line on debts than are the Democrats. They control the House, so all they need to do is just refuse to increase the debt limit, period. Spending would come to a halt. But you can bet, after all the theater is over, they will vote to increase the debt limit and any spending cuts will be illusory.

Maybe even the President, as Commander in Chief of the army would be forced to end these insane wars and close all those 900+ military bases on foreign soil left over from WWII. Maybe, if we were really lucky, the entire federal government would shut down and we would be free of their tyranny. Of course the tyranny of the States would still be there, but at least I can personally talk to my State Representative and Senator. I had sent an email to each of my two federal Senators and my Representative early in the debt debate, and got back canned responses which glossed over their position so I couldn't tell how they stood . When Obama suggested people contact their representatives, I again sent emails, and got back the identical canned responses; clearly, they really don't listen, probably not even reading the details of the communications they receive, and only try to placate everyone with these general bull answers. After all, their job is to stay in power and increase their wealth as much as possible while giving the big government largesse and privileges to the select few who can buy their votes.
