I don't mind some people getting the tittle of expert, but to many people are being called expert now, and I am beginning to wonder if they really deserve the tittle.

But it still feels vaguely weird to me...no standards...just subjective feelings from some people. I mean if there were people who came to this site who were generally well known- such as Heinberg or Deffeyes- Id be all for the title. But just your regular poster- who knows? Plus it creates a hierarchy of sorts- which annoys me...but that's just me...

Now the post count thing- that makes sense- posted a bunch- you get a silly new ranking- doesn't mean a thing- but its kind of fun to see it roll over when you hit 500 or a thousand...

You severely underrate the importance of being a fool. Its all these people who have so much invested in being right all the time and not being able to loose face that are the true fools.

Yeah, there are several areas I am considered somewhat of an expert by people in my life, but I think the greatest gift I give myself is the label of fool.

Why? true understanding and good questions come from giving yourself the gift of not knowing, and being able to admit you don't know something. Being able to fuck up and having the freedom to learn from your mistakes is why I know as much as I do.

Fool? ok, I'm down with that.

I think of the Expert tag like wearing a toga at a toga party.

It's at once both silly and yet says "I'm serious about participating."

It's not something I think anyone is going to list as a credential on their resume, though, so the arbitrary aspect of it is fine with me.

He brings tremendous survivalist and other practical knowledge to the site, as well as a unique philosophical bent. And he wraps it all in good, unpretentious English.

I have to say that it is kind of a silly nomenclature and really not all that accurate.

I liked the old system with the reward of making it to Fusion. You could be an expert loon with 3,557 posts but there is that Fusion right there, showing the world that you had finally made something of yourself.

I called my mom the day I hit Fusion and told her what I had done. She told me that she had never been so proud of me, she cried...she actually cried. She even came down to the basement to take a look and everything, later she made me a nice cheese sandwich.

I like cheese.
