$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ayoob', 'N')o joke. I truly believe in my heart of hearts, that the loss of television will be a destabilizing event in North American civilization. It is not going to be good.
It's possible that some will underestimate the importance of this change in our lifestyles. Many millions of people will not purchase converter boxes in time, and will be forced to deal with not having television available to them.
I don't think of myself as too much of a tinfoil hat type, but I've seen what happens as a result of a loss of television to people whose movement is restricted.
The TV goes off, and people get restless.
TV = trance. There is abundant medical evidence for this. I think TV is a more potent sedative than many prescription-only narcotics.
I guess we'll see what we will see.
There's nothing tinfoil about it ayoob. Television is indeed an addictive drug. I remember reading studies decades ago where they would get families to forgo their television completely for a month or more, and everyone in the household exhibited all the classic symptoms of drug withdrawal, including irritability, restlessness, insomnia and even physical illness in some instances. It's one of the reasons I killed my TV years ago (apart from the endless stream of mind pollution)...
