$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'Y')es I agree evolution is "hilariously farcical", anyone who believes everything they see came from nothing certainly fits into that category - But even when you examine the two beliefs, and let me emphasize they are both simply beliefs because neiher is proven, and evolution has been propogated by far more lies and hoax's that Christianity.

Back to my point - When you examine the two beliefs:

Evolution states complex life came from nothing.

Creationism states life and all matter was created.

Which is more "hilariously farcical" ?

Sorry dude, I don't follow, can you clarify ?

Um, I'm pretty sure the 'Theory of Evolution' does NOT state that life came from nothing. I believe the overall idea is that it is unknown how life got started, not that it was created from nothing. It seems downright intellectually dishonest that you make this claim while making your arguement. One must note the fact that it is clear there are species mutations. These mutations will help or hinder and individual creature within a given environment, and in turn, its ability to reproduce and make more like itself. It also seems clear to me that the most change within species populations will occur when there are more modified environmental factors that favor different charactristics.

From Wikipedia:

Origin of life

For more details on this topic, see Origin of life and RNA world hypothesis.

The origin of life is a necessary precursor for biological evolution, but understanding that evolution occurred once organisms appeared and investigating how this happens, does not depend on understanding exactly how life began.[121] The current scientific consensus is that the complex biochemistry that makes up life came from simpler chemical reactions, but it is unclear how this occurred.[122] Not much is certain about the earliest developments in life, the structure of the first living things, or the identity and nature of any last universal common ancestor or ancestral gene pool.[123][124] Consequently, there is no scientific consensus on how life began, but proposals include self-replicating molecules such as RNA,[125] and the assembly of simple cells.[126]

Further 'origin of life' discussion.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origin_of_life

Note that none of these theories are called 'Evolution's Theory of the Origin of Life' or 'Darwin's Theory of the Origin of Life'.

More:

Origin of species in a nutshell (Darwin's) also from WIKI:

Theory in a nutshell
Darwin's theory is based on key observations and inferences drawn from them:[3]

Species have great fertility. They have more offspring than can grow to adulthood.

Populations remain roughly the same size, with small changes.

Food resources are limited, but are relatively stable over time.
An implicit struggle for survival ensues.

In sexually reproducing species, generally no two individuals are identical.

Some of these variations directly impact the ability of an individual to survive in a given environment.

Much of this variation is inheritable.

Individuals less suited to the environment are less likely to survive and less likely to reproduce, while individuals more suited to the environment are more likely to survive and more likely to reproduce.

The individuals that survive are most likely to leave their inheritable traits to future generations.

This slowly effected process results in populations that adapt to the environment over time, and ultimately, after interminable generations, the creations of new varieties, and ultimately, new species.

What do I do? I like to watch old black-n-white scifi movies and English dramas, work on quilts, play with our ferrets, and play poker online.
Which one depends on what type of activity will take me the furtherest away, mentally, from peak oil...

...and on topic...

I go about living my life while trying to do and learn things that I think will be beneficial.

I have started forging (currently with propane, but it is a start).

I do leatherwork, basic woodworking and carpentry, and even make clothes. I try to be handy.

I read about wilderness survival, tracking, food preservation, hide tanning, etc.

I hunt.

I do medieval re-enactment to learn more about cultures and how things were done in a less technology based point in time.

I garden.

I play the guitar and sing.

I brew beer.

I live my life, but I don't forget.

Very easy. Just put on your ipod turn it on and tune out. Best of all those ipods draw very little electric power, and can easily be charged with a solar charger.

Except after a few years the lithium ion batteries need to be replaced.

I used to meditate to forget about Peak Oil (and doom in general)... but honestly, meditation works also as a prevention for Peak Oil in several levels:

it doesn't use oil or electricity types of energy.
meditating can help to desire less (though meditation is also a form of pleasure).
it helps greatly to clean the mind for further analyzing of consequences.

But now I mostly meditate through the day-night activity. It isn't that trascendental, but helps keep a clean, sharp mind.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Terran', 'V')ery easy. Just put on your ipod turn it on and tune out. Best of all those ipods draw very little electric power, and can easily be charged with a solar charger.

I also listen my iPod frequently. You may also consider a Nintendo DS ;)

I'll definitely be getting a DS. But first I need to get a PSP to go with my PS3.

I don't. I think it's unwise to take your eyes off a danger.

I just don't let it bring me down.

Meditation, inner silence is good for those who are so inclined.

I prefer something more active, that builds resilience on all levels, something called tensegrity (castaneda.com).

Otherwise it's a mistake to let anything become an obsession.

I believe it's scary especially for Americans because they feel alone and powerless in front of the unholy alliance between the state and the corporations, Big Oil, whatever.

People will need to wake up and demand a real share in the basic decisions. Now what's the chance of that.. :( maybe when TSHTF

Hard maths or physics problems.

I can't stop, it's horrendous. I was sitting in Econ today and all I could think about was building a house in the forest and building trap doors and digging a garden. I was having so much fun just sitting there and smiling and listening to my teacher talk about demand/supply/demand quantity. I don't know how to stop thinking about peak oil but I do go to the bar on fridays to talk philosophy and get drunk and that seems to help.

I think about climate change, species loss, the fact that so many Americans get their news from Fox, how my beloved All Blacks didn't even make the semifinal of the rugby world cup, the fact that so may Americans believe Saddam bombed the towers and that they did find WMD, monoculture farming, my mate John who altho highly intelligent believes in abiotic oil and that aliens made the pyramids. Then I think about PO again to relax.

I'm with Pops. I lift weights, shoot my bow and shotgun, fletch arrows, and learn new skills. I also started doing skill walks where I take some gear out in the desert and learn to use it. When it's all said and done I remember that I am preparing and THAT IS ALL A PERSON CAN DO. So I drink a beer and chat up the wife.

Generally I don't. I do, however, use it to frame most of my life's activities and decisions, doing things that I always wanted to do before I even learned about peak oil. Like Pops, I spend time trying to learn less energy-intensive ways of doing things; I garden; take care of my animals; always re-define plan B; make contingency plans... but then I also love spending time with my family and friends, playing music, just visiting. I work on building my community here, because I believe community will be the thing that helps a lot of us get through.

I was a regular poster here for a couple years - and then took a couple years' break - coming back just in the last month or so. All during that time, I was still viewing the world through my PO lens, and making adjustments accordingly.

You never completely take your mind off it.

No, I don't take my mind off it either. But I do get worn down by it. I'm now officially completely out of patience. I even walked out of a lunch meeting Tuesday because we were supposed to be talking about solutions and a guy started bitching about permaculture being "survivalism." Later I sent him a pile of links about it. I'm just very tired of debating people about things they don't know about (like peak oil and permaculture). I'm tired of begging people for years to read just one or two books.
