$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('onlooker', 'W')as just watching how the computer industry is working to make passwords obsolete. This would be good in that passwords have been identified as a major weakness in protecting against hacking. The way to did this would be primarily via Biometrics. So what do the computer savvy people here think about this?

It might be great for apps. like speeding up airport screening clearance. (You have human backup present is something goes wrong, for one thing).

Generally, it will likely be resisted for awhile for general PC security, as it will be expensive, at least for a while, and as always, no one will want to pay for it.

It's not like biometrics makes things 100% secure though -- just better than passwords for now. Far from foolproof, as the recent Iphone X unlock demo fail showed.

A big weakness of security systems is human insiders (like sneaking in thumb drives from some hacking group, for money). Biometrics doesn't change that a bit.

I'm all for improvements. I'd prefer serious 2 factor authentication, and if the internet community and PC makers want to make biometrics part of that, fine by me. I, however, won't be deluded in substituting a biometric ID check for my physical house or car keys (unless legally forced to), in the deluded assumption that computer security can't be hacked.
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.
