$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', '.')..it was just me and the Adventure Girl chatting away.

Best you can do at this stage aside from worry I guess.

Good luck to her on her adventures, we all need 'em, I'm thinking...

Good for her. :)

What exactly is dangerous about Finland? What exactly are you scared will happen to her?

Sounds like she's being rational. Likely you would have told her not to go six months ago too (and she would have been fine).

No. I wouldn't, nor did I when she went to Germany even though I knew about peak oil. Things are quite different now which you should know if you were paying any attention.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', ' ')But I'm such a worry-wort.

Yes, you are. But, you are entitled since you are her father. I worry about others more than myself too, but have no kids. My brother has a business trip to Belgium in a few weeks, my sister leaves for vacation in Puerto Rico with her whole family and a good friend (also a 27 yo woman) is leaving for a 2 month trip to Africa in December. I'm worried about all of them to some degree, but more than likely they will all be just fine as will your daughter. It's more dangerous driving to the airport.

Yes. Now the most severe effects peak oil are delayed for at least four or five years. :)

And you didn't answer my question, what makes Finland more dangerous than San Diego?

I'll be in Finland in a little while...after I've gotten the visa stuff worked out. I'll be travelling around looking for a hot girlfriend :D

Maybe I could grab a coffee with your daughter and change her mind...jk

Finland will be alright post peak. A small history of starvation but nothing like Bangladesh or Ethiopia...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Narz', 'A')nd you didn't answer my question, what makes Finland more dangerous than San Diego?

I didn't say that Finland is more dangerous than San Diego. Just that this is a dangerous time to travel. But what the heck. Finland is right next to the Baltic States and Russia. They are all in deep trouble right now. There's trouble brewing everywhere. If these financial 'rescue' plans don't work then all hell could break loose soon. Maybe they will work and we'll have some calm times ahead. Maybe they won't. Nobody knows but things have gotten very dicey in just the past few weeks. That good enough for you, narz?

Yup, thanks for engaging me PMS. I wish your daughter safe travels.

If you want, should TSNHTF in the next 12 months, I'll send you guys some heirloom seeds from next summer's garden next fall (after harvest). It'd be an honor to give you & your fam some fresh food to supplement all the dried bulk stuff. :)

I don't get you people who dismiss the possibility of a very rapid collapse. If foreign investors get spooked there could be a run on the dollar in short order. Or if the commercial paper market freezes, as it almost did already... Or if there is a well-placed terrorist incident... It's the nature of bank crashes that they can unfold very rapidly, like chains of dominoes, especially in this globalized, electronically-linked world. PMS is right to be concerned.

I'm not predicting that it's going to happen, but it's possible. Very possible.
