Another one here.

As I'm a peak-oil newb it's hard for me to sell it very well and I frequently get in over my head.

Spinning off from a discussion here.

I tend to be quite the odd man out on that forum, though I've been there so long and do respect the intelligence of many of the people there even though some of them think population growth & consumerism are the best thing since sliced bread (also not the best idea, especially white bread).

check out the Lynch thread here.

Lynch Thread

Lynch actually begins posting under the name "Spike."

Keep in mind that back in 2004, Lynch predicted oil prices would drop to $30 a barrel by the next year. Obviously, they didn't.

Many posters on this forum have been "insiders." Check out "Rockdoc" "Shakespear" and some others who are all fairly pessimistic, predicting a peak either soon or by 2014.

That is a long paper. From what I can gather they are arguing that oil production didn't follow hubberts predictions on the downslope and that is substantial proof that technology will save us and we will never reach a global hubberts peak.

HAHA Enhanced efficiency is the biggest energy source in the US!!! HAHAHA that one made me laugh. They also argue that when oil becomes expensive everyone will just cut back with no problems and no mention of the poor countries going under.

Then at the end a list of substitutes for oil that includes coal and oil shale with no mention of EROEI!

The quote on page 44 is good though.

Yes, there are many people trying to dispute peak oil.

I know someone, somewhere has probably written a detailed refutation to this presentation.
