$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('SeaGypsy', 'T')he internet isn't to blame for failure in the education system.

True. People are to blame, in the form of parents, teachers and unions. With a little mix of GovCo in there as well I imagine.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('SeaGypsy', '
') Scientific method is not that hard to understand or explain. The general lack of such understanding creates the market for such fake science. If the internet didn't exist, we would still get the same bullcrap, from newspapers & TV.

The scientific method isn't difficult to understand. But its results are difficult to accept among those who believe first, and then cast about for rationalizations. Peak oil of course being just such a belief system.

Peak oil is a fact, the belief system is an extrapolation.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ') A few faulty mice studies and a couple of weak population-based cohort studies with inadequate sampling sizes, logistic simplicity and impossible conclusions are not to be taken seriously.

Your attempts to deny the existence of the recently recognized neurological disease caused by marijuana smoking called cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome are BS.

Why don't you guys face reality? This isn't 1968, and in the 50 years since then we've learned a lot more about the toxicity of marijuana now then we knew then.

________________________________

Have you aging hippies ever heard of the magazine "High Times"?

Its a pro-marijuana magazine covering everything to do with marijuana. High Times recently published a story to warn marijuana smokers about this new neurological disease---cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome--- caused by too much marijuana smoking.

what-is-cannabinoid-hyperemesis-syndrome

High Times say pot smoking can cause "cannabis induced disequilibrium of the thermoregulatory system of the hypothalamus.” The hypothalamus is part of the brain, in case you don't know.

High Times also says: "While cannabis is revered for its nausea-calming (antiemetic) properties, it’s paradoxical that it causes severe nausea and vomiting in certain people. Due to its widely known antiemetic properties, people who develop CHS will often increase the amount of cannabis they consume in hopes that it will cure the nausea, but it never helps. It goes to show how little we know about not only about the body, but also about the interaction between cannabis and cannabinoid receptors.

And " people need to be aware of the syndrome’s existence. If you know anyone with these symptoms tell him or her go to a doctor and stop smoking."

Face facts. Many scientific studies now show that marijuana causes damage to the brain. For instance, Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome is caused by marijuana damaging the hypothalamus.

Too much marijuana smoking can damage the hypothalamus, resulting in uncontrollable screaming and convulsive vomiting-----a syndrome doctors call "scromiting."

Doctors say "put cannabis in your rear end, don't smoke it"

Unread postby mmasters » Wed 27 Dec 2017, 23:32:31

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'C')anada is further along than nearly every other country in embracing cannabis as a legitimate medicine. Health Canada currently licenses 38 companies to produce and distribute medical marijuana. But as for how this medicine should be taken? We’re doing it wrong, all wrong.

Most cannabis is smoked, of course, and both Health Canada and the Canadian Medical Association are both formally opposed to the inhalation of anything burned. This is why “[m]ost” doctors in Canada absolutely “hate” medical marijuana, association spokesman Jeff Blackmer told CBC. After all, one doctor pointed out, we know opiate-based painkillers reduce pain—but we don’t have doctors suggesting we should legalize smoking opium.

So what to do?

Sit down for this one, because here come the backwards puns. The smartest solution is to bend over and take your medical cannabis up the rectum, one doctor told CBC with a straight face.

Mikhail Kogan is a real person and medical director at the Center for Integrative Medicine at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. As he told CBC, he “sees no reason for people to smoke marijuana medically anymore.”

For one, it’s inefficient. Though most of us would argue the effects of smoked cannabis upon the brain and body are immediate, Kogan argues that the lungs make absorbing “enough” of the drug “difficult.” And edibles are no solution, because gastric acids get in the way.

Therefore, the best ways to consume medical cannabis is via other means. Like under the tongue, with a sublingual tincture—or up the rear, with an as-yet-to-be-marketed marijuana suppository.

Take it away, doc.

“Rectally is actually a lot more preferred because of the volume of absorption,” Kogan told CBC. “You can put a lot more and it gets absorbed a lot better, but not everybody is open to this way of administration.”

Finnish study shows that smoking pot just five times as a teenager creates a greater risk of developing psychosis.

Smoking-cannabis-just-5-TIMES-teenager-raises-risk-psychosis

In addition to the news story, there is an interesting video at the link created by the British National Health Service (NHS) where people who have actually had psychotic episodes related to their drug use tell their sordid little stories. The pot induced psychosis made them paranoid and delusional and sometimes violent to the point that they had to be forcibly institutionalized---not a good thing.

Cheers!

So there is no actual understanding of the medicinal benefits of pot. I am quite sure that burning the weed creates all sorts of nasty chemicals and destroys the actual medicinal value. So a pot tincture sounds like the way to go if you need the medicinal properties of this plant.

Recreational pot consumers are not really into health. Government pandering to dopeheads is quite sad.

Good to see you are still posting, Peter. Another poster claimed you'd been "perma-banned" but I'm glad to see that isn't so.

And you are still posting in your regular style---the classic pstarr jeremiad. Good to see it.

Hope you are having a great spring.

We are warming up fast here in Alaska---we're up to 8 hours/day of sunlight and the temps went above freezing a couple of days ago for the first time in months---in another couple of months the leaves will come out on all the trees in one day---an amazing phenomena known as "green up."

I can't wait.

Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS), also known as scromiting, may be much more common then previously thought.

marijuana-us-sickness-pain-medicine-health

Back before marijuana was legal, people used to be afraid to tell their doctors they were pot users, and doctors weren't looking for CHS. The results were sometimes tragic ---doctors tried everything to help CHS sufferers---even surgery and the removal of their organs---- because they never dreamed their serious medical problems were caused by smoking marijuana.

By the time Thomas Hodorowski made the connection between his marijuana habit and the bouts of pain and vomiting that left him incapacitated every few weeks, he had been to the emergency room dozens of times, tried anti-nausea drugs, anti-anxiety medications and antidepressants, endured an upper endoscopy procedure and two colonoscopies, seen a psychiatrist and had his appendix and gallbladder removed.

Today, doctors are seeing more and more CHS patients. "Now a new study, based on interviews with 2,127 adult emergency room patients under 50 at Bellevue, a large public hospital in New York City, found that of the 155 patients who said they smoked marijuana at least 20 days a month, 51 heavy users said they had during the past six months experienced ....symptoms of CHS.

The authors of the new study estimated that up to 2.7 million of the 8.3 million Americans known to smoke marijuana daily or near daily may suffer from at least occasional bouts of CHS.

The big news is that it’s not a couple of thousand people who are affected — it’s a couple of million people,” said Dr Joseph Habboushe, an assistant professor of emergency medicine at NYU Langone/Bellevue Medical Centre and lead author of the new paper, published in Basic & Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology.

Jeepers what are the stoners eating in America? I lived around Nimbin for almost 20 years, highest cannabis use in maybe the world, never heard or saw anyone 'scromit'- so 1/3 of the hundreds I knew there were all hiding chronic ill health- wow.

New study shows pot causes genetic damage

marijuana-weed-cannabis-sperm-genetic-change-science-health

A new pilot study shows that THC (the active ingredient in pot) causes damage to DNA in sperm. The study was done on rats, and then on a small group of human pot smokers. In both cases significant damage to sperm DNA occurred when the test animals were exposed to pot.

This raises the possibility that the children of pot smokers will be more prone to genetic defects and birth defects.

The preliminary work suggests the DNA in the sperm is being damaged in areas responsible for the development of the internal organs in the fetus.

The amount of THC in the blood was found to correlate with the amount of genetic damage---the more THC, the greater the damage to the DNA.

Cheers!

Given the new medical study showing that marijuana causes genetic damage to sperm, it seems likely that this would result in birth defects in babies.

Apparently there has been lots of concern in the past about pregnant woman smoking marijuana and exposing the fetus to THC and other chemical compounds because several studies find links between marijuana exposure in the womb and things like miscarriages, low birth weights, low IQs, etc.

However, it appears the discovery that marijuana causes genetic damage to DNA in sperm is so new that the epidemiological studies haven't been done yet.
