$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ferrelgiraffe', 'C')an't blame Castro.

Why not?

He's been dictator of Cuba for 50 years, and oversaw the collapse in Cuba's economy. Surely he bears some responsibility. :P :P :P

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')his is brainwashing? I don't think so.

I do. Even at 10 years old in 1965 I knew it was brainwashing, and when I told my teacher I chose not to participate I was threatened with expulsion and other dire consequences. I finally prevailed and it was a very educational experience.

Patriotism is brainwashing, pure and simple.

The reason it's not so obvious to most folks in the US is that it's so pervasive, you get it every day, from every source, it's just a trickle all the time but it soaks in so deep you can't see it or hear it any more, like a constant noise from across the street that you simply can't hear until a guest comes over and asks "what's that noise?", or the stinky factory in your town that no one who lives there can smell.

American culture is like a fast river, so long as you're floating along with the current nothing seems to be happening and everything is fine. The minute you begin to struggle against the current you realize that a huge force is pushing you at high speed toward the waterfall and there's nothing you can do to avoid it.

I used to have a good buddy who moved here from Argentina when he was about 40 years old. He used to look at me and say "do you know the difference between Argentina and the US? In Argentina everyone KNOWS the media is controlled."

Patriotism teachings and other crap in the long run pays for itself, as our "masters" save a lot of money on herd superwising, IRS personell, military recruitings ,ets.
Anyway US's brainwashing is very, very successful one. I know one guy for example, he was smart enough to become a top-manager with a high-school diploma only, but yet he believes that if US will pull out of Iraq terrorists will come to his middle of nowhere to blow up his ass. His mindset completely constructed by US media-- whatever they talk about.

I also know a couple of middle-aged people for more than 3 years, and in these 3 years , I've never, never even heard them mentioning that they've read something. Ever.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pretorian', ' ') By the way what happens with the kids who refuse to repeat it ? They get medicated? Locked up ? Bad grades? They disappear?

Well, one kid in high school refused to do it, when we said it once in a while, since he refused we all had to stand and cover our hearts etc like in elementary school and say it EVERY morning.

The "liberty and justice for all" is a blatant lie and the whole purpose for everybody to repeat this over and over again is to get people to believe the lie. The brainwashers love this part in there. They wouldn't want to take it out for anything. They hate liberty and justice for all but they love people believing there is liberty and justice for all.

This is a major brainwashing tool in the U.S. repeat a obvious lie over and over again and people believe it.

Even the most ignorant of Americans will admit that every source of media in the US of any size is controlled by a corporation. Any corporation is in business to make money for it's stockholders, period. Nothing grows corporations but black ink, nothing kills them like red ink. These obvious facts are enough to cause problems. Throw in increasingly larger corporations controlling larger percentages of the MSM, add in a corrupt government, environmental degradation and peak oil, and the difficulties can only get worse.

The part that scares me the most is my own ignorance. We all take for granted the nice shiny technology that humankind has created. Our knowledge of nearly everything has increased greatly. How much more effective have TV commercials become over the years? Can cognitive dissonance be used to get some percentage of the population to ignore stolen money and resource wars? Can people be induced to borrow money by making them feel that everyone else is doing it? Can something as painfully obvious as Peak Oil be trivialized into oblivion?

I think the most dangerous and most insidious propaganda tool is the drama series.

Shows like, say, Torchwood - which glamourises the concept of a secret police - are particularly dangerous, as they result in the unwitting public lowering their shields towards the concept, and that's very dangerous for true liberty.

I will not shy away from stating the concept that liberty should exist for all - because it should. but a secret police is not liberty. It's servitude, as is much of the modern economic system. I'm willing to serve, but I will do so at my choosing, not at the whims of a dictatorial government.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Plantagenet', 'Y')es, I'm sure Castro will institute a glorious 5-year-plan to increase bandwidth in Cuba....

It's a joint cuban-venezuelan-chinese project; and it will be open for other caribbean countries to connect (probably Haity and Jamaica would benefit of it too).

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')meanwhile, the reality is that the communists have transformed Cuba from the richest to the 2nd poorest country in latin America in only 50 years. :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

I wonder where you got your "informations" from...
Cuba never was the richest contry in latin America; and it is not the 2nd poorest now either.

Couple of my friends and I decided not to stand or recite the allegiance during junior year of high school, my teacher literally had a fit even started screaming and the principal sought legal counsel to see if they could force us to pledge. Turned out they had no ground but we had to step outside the classroom every morning for the duration. What a circus.

In meantime porn industry is the biggest in the USA. The last factories that haven't been outsourced 8)

Cubans haven't been rich but the casino and brothel owners have. After nationalizing ang egalitarization of society they have quite good education (one of the best in Latin America), and they haven't been terrorized into being consumers. They are healthier anyway than Americans, and healthcare with this amount of resource is not that bad - you would rather to be in Nicaraguan or Cuban hospital? this is measurable in dolars? I don't think so. It's not 2nd poorest country and HDI index places it on top positions among other "developing" countries.

Amnesty International in last report said that Cuba has 71 prisoners of morality. Can anybody tell me the numbers of visitors in Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib last year?

The biggest recent lie is "Bringing Demoracy to the ME", 1953 was about "Bringing better Democracy to Iran".
