Ive been researching nanotechnology the last few months. Its extermely interesting to me.

Here is a primer on the subject. Little NanoRobots will contruct are energy in the future.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('JasonHam', 'c')ontruct are energy

I think the primer you need to read is a spelling book.

BTW, energy cannot be created or contructed.

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

JasonHam, read up on molecular nanotech, that’s the real groundbreaker for the energy sector. You might find Kurzweil's writing interesting reading.

Manufacturing every single thing we consume locally, constructed at the molecular level, for virtually no energy cost (some even argue MNT as an energy positive process), with the end result a product that is as efficient as physically possible – of course such a technology can save as.

And it’s nice to see that some people here get it. From Aaron’s link:
“This line of research may well represent our best hope of meeting our energy challenge.”

It’s not a question of if it can save us, because it can. It’s a question of if it will be developed. Is the path to MNT as clear as many predict? Will we be able to keep high-end research going for another decade or so? Will we be able to keep civilization together for just a while longer?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', '
')Do you really believe that nanoanything is the answer to anything? I don't.

Because you think it won’t be developed or because you don’t think the theory stands? If the later, how will eliminating the need for fossil fuels not help anything?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('chris-h', '
')Will make everything grey GOO yea !

Maybe you consider grey goo a joke, but the fact is nanotech presents the greatest technological risk the world has ever known. Nukes will seem safe compared to some of the weapons that are currently in the pipeline 8O

I am so sick of forum titles that say "Our Problems Are Solved" or "Our Worries Are Over."

If I want to hear that sort of stuff I can watch the weekend TV infomercials that have replaced decent programming.

I knew I was going to get this reaction. Anything that isnt doom and gloom is stupid and misinformed to you quacks. Why dont you all just give up right now. Go ahead and jump.... I don't know much about nanotechnology, but it seems that the science has some promise. But NOOOOO, we couldnt possibly advance and discover, new ways of living, that doesnt include a mass dieoff or a crumbling civilization. And you know, the world is flat!!!!! jackasses

Look, the die is going to happen. It always does, the population can not grow forever. The belief that anything can go on forever is insane.

And speaking of all these "advanced technologies", I would greet them with extreme skepticism. Stuff like this has been promised in the past before and failed to deliver what it had promised. Nature always finds a way to out smart humans.

It is not that we are doomers here, we are just being realistic. I think almost 100 years of 1st world consumerism has blinded us big time. We are addicted to our consumer products and do and say anything to defend them.

I also read Kurzweils book on nano tech, and while I do not believe in the rate at which he thinks nano will be deployed, I agree it will come this century. The medical field looks like its first major deployment.

Anything that doesn't genuinely address the critical problems and concerns that produce gloom and doom is stupid and misinformed.

Nanotech is just another starry-eyed tech misappropriation of the time and energy and money needed to actually solve our problems. It's another gimmick for trying to circumvent the personal sacrifice and radical behavioral change that must happen or else.

Funny thing, I remember a lot of the pessimistic old timers around here were as optimistic as you when their post count was small and their joinup date was recent. It just takes a while for the harsh reality of it all to sink in.
