House votes to open refuge to oil drilling

House lawmakers today approved a bill that opens the way for oil and gas exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in northern Alaska as one of their last acts of an all-night session.

The battle could become even more intense later this week in the Senate, where Democrats have vowed to try to strip the drilling language from the legislation.
