Use of renewable energy in Europe lags behind target with just ten percent of the EU’s energy mix expected to come from renewable sources by 2010, missing a forecast of 12 percent, the European Commission said last Wednesday, Deutsche-Presse-Agentur (dpa) reported.
Outlining European Union plans to boost the use of renewable energy from forestry, agriculture and waste materials, the Commission noted that the EU needed to increase its use of biomass and biofuel if it is to meet its commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and reduce its dependency on oil imports.
