Record airstrike hits over 100 ISIL oil trucks

Operation Inherent Resolve supported Iraqi security forces with airstrikes Dec. 8, 2016 that aimed to destroy 168 Da’esh oil tanker trucks in central Syria to degrade Da’esh revenue sources to fund terrorism. DVIDS

U.S. warplanes destroyed a fleet of 168 oil tanker trucks in Syria in the largest strike in the two-year-old air campaign against the Islamic State, the U.S.-led coalition announced Friday.

More than 20 aircraft were used to destroy the tanker trucks, which were gathered near Palmyra, in central Syria. The oil in the trucks was worth about $2 million, according to a statement.

The airstrike, which was launched Thursday, is part of an operation to reduce revenues from the Islamic State, which is also called ISIS or ISIL. The Islamic State gets 25% of its revenue from oil, the Center for the Analysis of Terrorism, a private research group, estimates.

It’s not clear why the Islamic State massed so many vehicles in the open.

Coalition aircraft have destroyed hundreds of tanker trucks and disabled infrastructure used to pump and refine oil to weaken the terror group’s revenue.

“When ISIL has access to large sums of money, they use it to conduct violent terror attacks against anyone who doesn’t share their barbaric ideology,” Col. John Dorrian, a military spokesman, said in a statement.

At its peak the Islamic State, which controls territory in Iraq and Syria, had revenues of about $1.3 million a day from oil, according to the State Department.

Revenue from oil and other sources has dropped as a result of the airstrikes and the Islamic State’s loss of territory in Iraq and Syria.

U.S.-backed ground forces in Iraq and Syria have won back a number of key towns and cities over the past year. Iraqi security forces are currently battling to drive militants out of Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city.

Extortion is another major revenue source for the group and the loss of territory has meant it has a smaller population to prey on.

The dramatic revenue loss is threatening the economic viability of the terror group, the Center for the Analysis of Terrorism said in a report this year.

The amazing limitless stupidity of humanity is clearly exemplified here.

I predict we will see excalating stupidity and insane waste as resources get scarcer.

If I cant have the resource I would rather destroy it than having others use it. That attitude – which seems common – also really exemplifies humanitys complete lack of a sensible, sustained effort when trying to solve what is now global problems.

haha, reminds me of a tooth for a tooth and pretty soon the world is blind. Well we are have entered into and are in the midst of an existential crisis as a species yet we seem blind to it. Rather we persist in a normal stupid ways of doing things, greed, war, competition, etc. Nothing could be a better example of how utterly clueless we are now.

Well, we should believe the reports from our own govt, shouldn’t we? LOL. Maybe true but asked above: why amass that many high value targets in one spot? They obviously weren’t loading. Even more questionable: why have them filled with $2 million of oil and just sit there? In Texas the trucks hauling the Rockman’s oil don’t just sit and wait. They roll 24/7 except when loading/unloading. Particularly unbelievable if we have already destroyed a lot of the trucks: ISIS only gets paid when oil is delivered…not sitting in an oil field waiting on a blown up tanker.

But good enough even if they were empty. OTOH it does remind one of the govt’s inflated body counts in Vietnam.

Huh, so Iraqi government forces are operating now inside Syria? Is this believable?

It seems these retards are very proud of how the USA constantly violates international law by illegally bombing sovereign countries without their permission. I wonder how Americans would feel about the USA being bombed illegally. The USA is making enemies all over the world on a daily basis.

Anyone who believes that the USA is bombing Syria to destroy ISIS is a fucking retard. The USA created ISIS to use them as an excuse to illegally bomb Syria to destroy it because the Syrian government refused the USA’s orders to build pipelines. The USA is the largest terrorist institution in human history by far.

I seriously doubt the united snakes has done anything of the sort.

More than likely, the uS bombed a bunch of abandoned vehicles, or a junkyard. Even more likely, this entire event never actually occurred. The uS has consistently failed to notice masses of its USlamic state force moving around in the wide open for the last 5 years or more, so why start attacking them now?

    A: They haven’t, and they didn’t.

    uS invaders out of Syria.

The first time I read about the bombing of oil trucks in Syria was about a year ago, this was when the Russians were destroying the trucks transiting Turkey to get to ports for transport. This could be a new report but, the number of ISIS wells, processing facilities and tanker trucks the U.S has destroyed this year would bankrupt EXXON,

Yes, its just more orwellian fake news from the USlamic State Today Rag. The uS will likely keep reporting the are ‘destroying ISIS trucks’, long after there are any left to destroy. Because you know, Russia.

If the uS actually hit a USlamic state tanker truck, it would have to be classified as a friendly-fire incident. Which I can entirely see happening since the uS farces are so fucking inept they often have a hard time distinguishing between their own troops and the ‘enemy’. Or allies for that matter.

More bullshit from unreliable sources. The Empire is getting desperate as, one by one, its “allies” are jumping ship and swimming to the Russian and/or Chinese ones. Gotta hype up the propaganda. But that too is becoming transparent to everyone except Americans.

    Operation ‘Inherent Resolve’?

Honestly, who makes this shit up? And even more bizarre, why do the American people continue to fall for this BS?

  12. Anonymous on Sun, 11th Dec 2016 6:15 am

The only thing the uS and its tagalongs have inherently resolved, is to not leave Syria until the legitimate gov’t is toppled. Of course, the anti-USlamic coalition, the real one, have other ideas for Syria’s future.

The uS and its stupid names it comes up with for its aggressive wars are something else aren’t they?

The uS called its attacks designed to destroy and partition Yugoslavia, ‘Noble Anvil’.

May as well have called it, ‘Operation Might is Right’.

Or ‘Operation Just Because’. I mean Just Cause.

The amerikan orwellian double-speak dept must work overtime coming up with bullshit names for the uS war-machines operations.

Anon, all the U$ has to offer is war and weapon sales. It has no morals, honesty or even freedoms. It has about 320 million brainwashed sheeple most of whom suck on the government teat in one way or another. The U$ has to print money to pay their bills, like counterfeiters. When that fails, and it soon will, as the world turns away from the U$ dollar, they will collapse into the 3rd world or worse. A shocking awakening to most.

Frankly, it couldn’t happen to a more deserving country. Greed and hate control most Americans today. The country is fracturing along so many lines, it looks like one of those tempered windshields that has been shattered and the hundreds of little pieces are only held together by a thin core of plastic.

The America I thought I lived in is being exposed for what it really is and always has been, a plundering, murdering, selfish, greedy group of self-centered people. The few who see this are getting out, if they can, before the thin plastic core gives way. When the rest wake up, it will be too late. So sad.
