A week of Anti-Pipeline resistance kicked off with a disruption of the meetings of the National Energy Board which seeks to approve the Energy East Pipeline, a project that aims to transport oil from Alberta’s Tar Sands to the East Coast. The disruption successfully shut down the meetings indefinitely.
This was followed up by a protest in front of Local 144, a pro-pipeline union of welders and plumbers, implicated in a series of scandals of corruption and violent intimidation, and who partner with oil companies like Petro Canada and Shell.
Union members tried to intimidate protesters and media. But the crew stayed on.
That is, Until the union members called the cops

Eventually the conflict between energy production and environmental concerns will result in ‘terrorist attacks’ i.e. asymmetrical warfare. It’s so terribly easy to damage all the small road bridges between fort mcmurray and Edmonton. The more drastic climate change becomes the more the conflict will gravitate towards strategic vandalism. The fire that burnt Fort Mac was caused by a person. The fire was ignited just west of town on a cut line through the forest. Maybe it was an accident or maybe it was an asymmetrical attack on the community. Anybody who understands weather, forest fire behaviour and knows how to read a map could cause a lot of disruption to Albertas oil production every summer. Albertas oil facilities also use a lot of water and power. Fresh water intakes and power lines are easy targets. This little conflict is just getting started. I forecast suicide attacks by terminally ill people in the not to distant future.

“Life in the Native American oil protest camps”
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-37249617
“An Indian reservation in North Dakota is the site of the largest gathering of Native Americans in more than 100 years. Indigenous people from across the US are living in camps on the Standing Rock reservation as they protest the construction of a new oil pipeline. As a result, a new community has emerged.”

Lol, do you have your vest yet? Gonna give them jet packs to dive bomb pipelines? You don’t really want to die but the terminally ill? What the hell.

Those protesting should try curbing the demand for hydrocarbons instead of disrupting the supply for the current demand. I don’t know any of these protestors, but their attitude towards hydrocarbons reeks of ignorance. Do they not know where plastics come from? Would they rather the hydrocarbons be shipped on trucks and share the same roads with their families? Or put on a tanker to capsize in the same waters we fish for our food supply?
Stop using plastics and minimize electricity consumption and “Big Oil” will just transistion to another market for its profits: perhaps a market with less “perceived” environmental impacts.

Agriculture losses in south Louisiana are at $110 million and growing
“It will take until at least early September for officials to gauge the exact extent of the damage caused by flooding to the agriculture industry, says Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain. But what was clear just a week after the floodwaters began receding is that—much like the unprecedented amount of rain that fell over south Louisiana—the damage will likely be historic.
“You’re basically looking at a Katrina-type event without the winds,” says Strain, noting that farmers in at least 28 of the state’s 64 parishes have been affected by flooding.”
“Strain is also reminding all residents not to consume any agricultural products that were exposed to even a drop of floodwater.
“Any part of an edible crop that was touched by floodwater at all must be discarded,” he says. “It is not safe to eat.””

Ian, if you stage a protest be sure that you don’t perform the Ghost Dance or you could be at risk of suffering a wounded knee.
