A $1.1 billion to $2 billion wind farm, possibly the biggest in the world, at Rocklands in the Otago’s Lammerlaw Range, is being investigated by Meridian Energy Ltd.
The company has three monitoring wind towers on Rocklands Station and expects to know within a year if the project is feasible and to decide on whether to proceed with resource consent applications. The site has the potential to generate between 600Mw and 1000Mw of electricity, making it as big, or bigger, than Benmore hydro power station.
