Peak meat may have occurred in the US already, however even the steadily increasing population of vegans and vegetarians that walk amongst us occasionally have a craving for something that looks and tastes like meat.
As a result interest in artificial meat remains high. MIT TEchnology Review has a look at the current state of the market, looking at a startup called “Beyond Meat” – The Problem with Fake Meat.
The key problems to solve at this point are making the texture of the “beast patty” acceptable to the tongue and developing substitutes to soy (now mostly GMO) for the raw substrate.

I am a meat producer raising cattle and goats on land not fit for anything else. I do not fertilize. I do put down lime. I get away with this by maintaining a low stocking rate and utilizing a grazing system that is management intensive. In simple terms I move my animals per optimum grass conditions in divided pastures. I utilize two different species of bovines that eat a different spectrum of forage.
All this talk by anti-meat people is a luxury of fossil fuel agriculture. In a world without or much less fossil fuel products animals MUST be part of the system in most agricultural arrangements.
We don’t need to be eating the amount of meats we eat. They should not be finished out with grains. This is obvious but tell me what in today’s world is not done in excess and without being irrational? Right.
I chum my cattle a little with a grain mix and they are crazy like a drug addict for it. I do this to have some control over them. A bucket will get their attention and they follow. The majority of their diet is grass.
Many of the articles I read about do-gooders discussing meat and other foods never grew anything. Until you get your dick wet you are just a virgin.

Meat, especially beef, is going to go away. It takes too many resources to provide it in mass numbers to the consumer. It will be priced out of reach of the average consumer and then it will become a target for rustlers and a life or death situation for the ranchers that try to grow them.
The other meats will be around much longer because they can be raised on much less resources and almost anyone with a yard can raise them. Local meat will be the future. Dairy cows may also last longer because you don’t have to eat them to have a food resource. Milk and cheese will be around for a long time, I think. Be it goat, cow or carabao. LOL

People blindly crave for meat as though we are carnivores.
We can still make different tasty dishes with different types of vegetables by adding different spices.
As per the FDA’s food plate, we should have 30% vegetables in our food.
And we can eat beans for protein.
Hope slowly we reduce the meat consumption.

If the vegetarians are opposed to meat, why are they always trying to make a fake steak?
Rick Bronson on Sun, 17th Apr 2016 10:18 pm
To make the meat eaters accept that steak can also be made out of Tofu.
Makati1 said correctly. Beef is going away as its one of the biggest causes of heart attacks. It has insoluble fat which will clog the arteries.

“It has insoluble fat which will clog the arteries”.
For fuck sake you idiot, no fat is soluble. Other than that I bet everything you think you know about diet and nutrition is wrong.

Who is interested is ‘artificial meat’? Vegans? I dont think so. I still eat meat occasionally, and I have zero interest in fake meat. I have enough fake pseudo-foods in my cupboards now. Fake colors, fake flavors, fake fillers. Fake ingredients of all unpronounceable sorts. As for the idea that vegans occasionally want some meat? Its not impossible, but what of it? Do vegans say meat-eaters occasionally crave fruits and vegetables and then run out and try to develop artificial veggies for the meat eaters? I don’t think so.
Oh, wait, I think monsanto already has the market on artificial food cornered.. or is working on it. Another example of americas endless list of innovations and scientific prowess.
Sigh…

Meat is NOT going away – we are just going to eat city meat instead for a while.
Whoever plans for soylent green production is going to be a “made man”.

Peaky, I stand corrected. You may be right. But there is a lot of fat that can be rendered for candles in Western society. Food and light from one source.
LOL
