Guy McPherson is very entertaining. But his extinction of mankind within the next 25 years bit is about as ridiculous as the climate change deniers.

Even if we assume worst case scenarios, we’ll start getting slapped down hard by mother-nature and lose millions of people. This will finally convince the deniers that they are wrong (or at least marginalize them to a small fringe that gets ignored) such that mankind will change things. And there is a lot we can do with green energy, geoengineering, and developing techniques to actually such carbon out of the atmosphere.

Yes 2030 is a little early. I’d be surprised if we see another century. Of course McPherson is not the only scientist who thinks we will go extinct. Often they wait until retirement or near it before they speak out. There a many who say it could happen if we don’t do something soon. We ain’t done shit except more- doing backwards eh?

Spec, you are deluding yourself with thoughts of a green solution. The only solution is a rebalance of population and consumption. Technology can not change this. We are too far gone for a technical solution.

Thoughts of green solutions are just more BAUtopianism by another color. Green or brown is still development and development is the problem. We will just have to ride this one out like floating an unknown river full of danger.

One thing is certain poor decisions will be less forgiving in a future of descent. We need to end the poor attitudes and lifestyles that have become acceptable BAU activities. Our fate depends on it if we have any chance.

Fenner, McPherson, Dawe’s – what do they have in common? They all come from Biology. Experts on how the web life on earth works. Marine scientists have nothing but dire news as well.

I like Jeremy Jackson, but he is kinda apologetic throughout this lecture for giving dire facts. That is understandable. I bet there are plenty of scientists who are holding their tongues for a number of reasons.

Guy McPherson is a total hack, shocking how low his standard of evidence is for a guy with a PhD.

    2030 is a little early-2100 my guess.

Remember to always always trust the slow moving consensus-their projections are always bang on eh?

Climate Science Predictions Prove Too Conservative
Checking 20 years worth of projections shows that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has consistently underestimated the pace and impacts of global warming ( this is 3 years old and there are a bunch more underestimate studies since)

Also put faith in the IPCC and their realistic assessments.

IPCC ‘Representative Concentration Pathways’ are based on fantasy technology, concealing a very bleak trajectory for humanity. Is this why policymakers are getting it so wrong?

Dr Matt Watson, from the school of earth Sciences at the University of Bristol (UK), made this point strongly at a recent meeting at the Royal Society in London:

I have my quarrels with McPherson’s interpretations on somethings, but he is not the only scientist who has said were going bye bye. And there have been plenty who have said if we don’t change (seeing much of that?) it could happen or a 90% or more die back of humanity. Do you think any scientists are holding their tongues for fear of losing their job or being ostracized? Or out of their own inherent optimism bias. Whatever the final outcome it’s a sure bet that we have locked in as much human suffering and misery as their ever was prior. All the feedback are real- the time lines are uncertain, but moving way faster that any scientist or model predicted even a decade ago.
