The U.S. and other Western nations closed their embassies here, as demonstrations swelled on the Yemeni capital’s streets on Wednesday amid mounting political tensions and fears of violence.
Thousands demonstrated both for and against the Houthi rebels who dissolved Yemen’s parliament and took over the government on Friday after their militants overran the capital in September. Protests spread to other cities and provinces, including the major central city of Taiz, said organizers.
In San’a, Houthi militants dispersed protesters opposing them and closed four squares that have drawn demonstrations in the past, said anti-Houthi protest organizers, who belong to a broad political coalition. These people said Houthi militants attacked and injured at least 40 protestors and detained dozens of them, taking them to an undisclosed location.

Ho Hum. Another day in the ME. Another day of lies and promises from the petro gang. Not worth reading time. The hot spot is far to the north on the Russian border. The Arabs don’t have nukes.

Hmmm. Take artificial borders drawn up by colonial and postwar power brokers, add a good helping of milenia-old religious infighting, sprinkle with colonialism, and combine with more than a few dashes of western imperialism. A fine recipe for endless strife.

I’ve been saying for years that Yemen was headed toward failed status. Looks like they have finally achieved it.
The place is a hot mess. Fundamentalist religion, warring tribes, dwindling water supplies, dwindling oil, everyone has guns, Al-Qaeda, Iran and Saudi Arabia fighting a proxy war there, corrupt politicians, and now a take-over by a warring tribe.
Tom on Wed, 11th Feb 2015 9:42 pm
I guess the U.S. Navy won’t be making port calls here any time soon. Makes a hole in our securing the tanker route from the Persian Gulf through the Red Sea and Suez canal to Europe. Will we lose standing in Europe if we can’t provide security on this strategic oil route? Egypt too is looking squirrlier by the day.

Ok, you’re building a skyscraper in the Yemeni capitol. Are you going to paint it white, beige or brown or a combination thereof?
We’re still playing with all three color chips.

Have you ever considered Spec, that the people in the Middle East are fed up with us exploiting their resources and oppressing their populations? This shit has been ongoing since the late 1800s. They are fed up, and you would be too.

Yemen, is a failed state on many levels. One of the most profound is at the basic level of water. These idiots are addicted to khat and use a significant share of their water to supply khat to the local market. What could be more insane then that.
These irrationalities of societies will be appearing in a widespread manner globally as the dysfunction, irrational, and random decay occurs. This will be true across the board because it is a law of thermodynamics. Entropic decay is the basics of descent.

Viewer, being a neighbor of KSA and a formidable fighting culture with a similar ethnic and social structure I think Yemen matter to oil indirectly. A failed state on KSA’s borders especially with a Shia population in the mix is “bad for business” so to speak.

CIA Insider Breaks Silence on Global Currency Wars
Saw it at the top of Yahoo main page.
War is coming — WWIII, starting soon, says CIA insider.
When everything starts falling apart, which it already is, I guess we can pretty much expect TPTB to whip out the tried-and-true population control tools of war and fear. This is especially true in Europe where things are really starting to break apart. But it will be equally true in many other parts of the world including here at home on US turf as the economic collapse really gets underway. You can count on it.
“Should the rise of conflicts across the Middle East and Ukraine serve as a warning sign that something much more dangerous is approaching?
According to Jim Rickards, the CIA’s Asymmetric Warfare Advisor, the answer is yes.
In a startling interview he reveals that all 16 U.S. Intelligence Agencies have begun to prepare for World War III.
Making matters worse, his colleagues believe it could begin within the next 6 months.
However, the ground zero location for this global conflict is what makes his interview a must-see for every American.”

(2004 article still timely)
excerpt:
Classified Plans Brought to Light
In 1973, the Nixon administration described a plan of attack against Saudi Arabia to seize its oil fields in a classified Joint Intelligence Report entitled “UK Eyes Alpha.” British MI5 and MI6 were informed, and under British National Archive rules, the document was declassified in Dec. 2003. The oil embargo had been over for only three weeks but “Eyes Alpha” suggested that the “U.S. could guarantee sufficient oil supplies for themselves and their allies by taking the oil fields in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the Gulf State of Abu Dhabi.” It followed that “preemptive” action would be considered, and that two brigades could seize the Saudi oilfields and one brigade each could take Kuwait and Abu Dhabi.
In Feb. 1975 the London Sunday Times revealed information from a leaked and classified U.S. Department of Defense plan. The plan was code-named “Dhahran Option Four” and provided for an invasion of the world’s largest oil reserves, namely Saudi Arabia. . . .
Also in 1975, Robert Tucker, U.S. intelligence and military analyst, wrote an article for Commentary magazine, owned by the Jewish American Committee, entitled “Oil: The Issue of American Intervention.” Tucker stated that, “Without intervention there is a distinct possibility of an economic and political disaster bearing . . . resemblance to the disaster of 1930s. . . . Davy — Based on everything I read, we have pretty much reached the end of the line as far as “growing” the economy with new debt. Massive creation of new debt combined with the “shale boom” bought us time. Now that bought time has been used up and there isn’t any more time left to buy. It looks and feels like we are on a fast downhill slide into total global economic collapse. There is NO new burst of as-yet untapped energy to rescue is this time — the shale boom was the LAST boom. The illusion of all is well is shattering. Loss of confidence, stark realizations of no hope and rapid violent unwind of the inflated stock market are all just getting started. This baby is ready to blow! That’s the way it seems to me.

“This baby is ready to blow! That’s the way it seems to me.”
I see it the same NWR. The only choices now are international cooperation, a new world reserve currency, or War. I don’t see the DC oligarchs giving up global hegemony, I see War on the horizon. Looks like cooler heads have prevailed in the Euro-zone in regards to the Ukraine proxy for now:
“Leaders agree Ukraine ceasefire after all-night talks”
“A ceasefire to end weeks of intense fighting in eastern Ukraine has been agreed after all-night talks between the leaders of Germany, France, Ukraine and Russia.”
“The German and French leaders were apparently motivated by the worsening violence as well as growing momentum in Washington to supply arms to Ukraine — a development that Moscow has warned would carry grave consequences.”
I await the Empire’s next move. Something tells me it’s going to be BIG.

“The only choices now are international cooperation, a new world reserve currency, or War.”
Or any combination of the above.
Actually, war and civil conflict is flat out guaranteed — it is what humans do, every time, when competition for scarce resources gets desperate.
A new world reserve currency would be a “nice try” to keep some semblance of BAU going for a while, and who knows, they may have all the “international cooperation” that is required to make that happen all lined up. I wonder how it will go down in practice though. It will be a really RUDE adjustment for hundreds of millions and probably billions of people, requiring extreme change — not likely to be a smooth process. But who knows, maybe it is worth a try. I like to think that somehow, some way, TPTB have “a plan” to continue our advanced, relatively enlightened and scientifically advanced civilization — without further destruction to planet earth and our biosphere. If we “lose” about 5 to 6 billion people during the adjustment phase, then who knows, maybe some level of BAU is still salvageable?
Davy on Thu, 12th Feb 2015 1:09 pm
New world currency is dead on arrival. I see zero chance of that. Maybe we might see a bifurcated hemispheric currency develop. Maybe the EURO/Dollar/Yuan in a basket but still distinct. BAU will end long before the world financial system finds a cooperative currency arrangement.
Davy on Thu, 12th Feb 2015 1:21 pm
You know NR/Greg how long has the baby been ready to blow and hasn’t. There is a resistance to a destructive unwind. This will probably make it worse than better. This could drag on a while.
The financial system is a command control game now by a handful of banks both private and the central banks. They are allied with the plutocrats and national oligarchs who then have the worlds militaries, police, spy services, and governments. These folks can keep BAU going if they can manage an avoidance of mutual assured destruction.
There are those who claim DC oligarchs this or that but the reality is the US is a mercenary government for sale to the highest bidder. The global plutocrats own the U.S. now. Conflicts are bad for business. These plutocrats enjoy making money hence in the end cooperation. The sheeples are co-opted into timidity when they stir unwantenly. There is no reason this can’t go on utill the brick wall of POD & ETP of oil.

Davy, totally agree with your above post. But all signs indicate that we are, right now, in the slow-motion process of smacking face first into that brick wall of POD and ETP of oil.
It takes a LOT of energy to hold back the devastating effects of physical reality — depleting resources, population overshoot — and we’re running out of energy.

All US personel in Yemen have now fled the country—-and left all the guns equipment etc to the Shia conquerors. Basically obama’s drone war in Yemen has been a flop

That’s right Plant. America’s drone war is a failure. What they should have done was send you over there to passively aggressively irritate them into submission.

One of America’s (only) allies in the region is Israel;.
