And then there are the troops sent into the heart of Ebola land…

Stupid is as stupid does
Join the armed forces to murder other people? Stupid
Do whatever some man in a funny hat says? Stupid
Go into a zone where a reactor just leaked? Stupid
Sorry but I can’t have sympathy for this level of stupid.
Makati1 on Sat, 15th Nov 2014 8:54 am
meld, me neither. But then, intelligence is not required to be cannon “fodder”. Have you noticed that, since WW2, the high brass sit it out in the rear area, not on the front line? Maybe not even in the same country.

There are safer, cleaner cheaper and more reliable ways to generate electricity.
Nuclear Energy was sold as “too cheap to meter”….. now we find it is too costly and too dangerous to exist.
Beware of the snake oil salesmen.

Meld & Mak~ You two deserve a big foot in your butts. You are both showing your ignorance by stating how stupid the cannon fodder was. These are people, morons! People that were pawns. The same people that fight to preserve your privilege to spout forth your ignorant words.
J-Gav on Sat, 15th Nov 2014 5:20 pm
Whoa! “These are moronic people”, “These are people, morons,” where does that take us?
Reality tells us something is wrong when gunners overhead kill Iraqis as if they were insects – and say as much in the video we’ve all seen.
Henry Kissinger (in)famously stated words to this effect: “What else are dumb midwestern farmboys good for if not cannon fodder?”
I have a nephew who did a tour in Afghanistan. In the mountains, constantly under mortar-fire. Described it as hell. Apparently came back unscathed – a lot of them didn’t. Many have PTSD and far too many have taken their own lives.
Does that mean that we absolutely must “support our troops” no matter where they are or what they are doing? What a ridiculous idea! 20-year-olds who haven’t the slightest notion of what they’re really “fighting for?” Go to Veterans for Peace for christsake R1!
You’re the one who needs a kick up the ass.

Blame the policy makers not the soldier. Don’t blame the brass. It’s their job to develop and complete missions right or wrong. It starts at the president or leader of any country for policy.
J-Gav on Sat, 15th Nov 2014 6:53 pm
Boat – Au contraire! Blame the brass, not the soldiers. The president, whatever his stripe may be, has practically nothing to do with it. There is no “leader of any country for policy” in the Western world. That role has long since been taken over by multinational corporations and banks.
Shadowy conspiracy theory? Hardly. It’s all in plain sight today, which makes it all the more devastating to the morale of people who think voting one way or another will bring them some relief.
Makati1 on Sat, 15th Nov 2014 8:05 pm
Boat, the ‘brass’ only think of their future careers and retirement after they leave the slaughter house. They usually are also power mongers who enjoy playing army with other people’s lives. It’s an ego trip, nothing patriotic. The ones who do the dying are nothing but numbers in the game.
The country’s leader seldom runs the war or even sets the agenda. Certainly Bush Jr or ‘O’ were/are not intelligent enough to do so. The powers behind the curtain always run the show, for the maximum profit. Only in dictatorships (Stalin, Hitler, etc) do the leaders run the show and even then, it is with the advice of it’s professional killers, the brass.

When will the common wealth peasantry stop sacrificing the blood of their sons in ruling class wars? When will the troop-dupes get a clue?

As an immigrant my great grampa dug a hole in the side of a hill and started a farm in Kansas. We don’t need an outsider telling us how America or it’s military works.

“We don’t need an outsider telling us how America or it’s military works.”
WE may not, but apparently YOU do. The masses have been used as cannon fodder throughout history by the ‘elite’ of the day. Patriotism and flag waving have always been used as a propaganda tool to keep the sheep marching to their deaths. Self defence is one thing, killing hundreds of thousands of innocent people in the name of regime change is another. More commonly known as ‘cold blooded murder’.

GregT,
Scroll through history and you will see the difference. Death totals through managed conflict by the US and not targeting civilians has changed war in history.
