The Seven Billionth Child

The Seven Billionth Child thumbnail

What is the future of this seven billionth child?

The seven billionth child is here. The clock has stopped ticking. Past midnight on October 31, the symbolic seven billionth child was born into some mega spotlights. This time, the UN refrained from declaring one baby as the seven billionth child. Each country declared its own symbolic seven billionth baby.

The world’s population has now reached seven billion and October 31 was declared by the UN Population Fund as the Seven Billion Day with a campaign to do “seven billion actions”. The question intriguing many is: What is the future of this seven billionth child?

Some echo the thinking of the executive director of the UNFPA, Babatunde Osotimehin, who in a recent talk at the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies stressed that the “problems stemming from population growth are actually issues of consumption, distribution, and equity, not necessarily intrinsic to the number of people alone.” Others like Harnia Zlotnik, Director of the Population Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, warn that “it is very important for the future of humanity that the young people of today have on average fewer children than their parents did.”

There are divergent views around the population issue. Some support population control. Others, development equity. Whatever view each one espouses, the fact is we are now seven billion in this planet earth. Something has to be done NOW.

The Asia Pacific Region – What is the future of the seven billionth child in this area?

This is where 61 per cent of the world’s population live. However, while some of the countries in the region have registered high birth rates, others have already reached the developed world’s birth rate level. This is true of Japan, Korea and China where Shanghai has the lowest birth rate of the world’s biggest cities.

Stuffed and Starved – Will the food chain and the supply chain ever merge?

Will the seven billionth baby be stuffed or starved? The consumption in some developed countries is certainly a problem for the world’s population. While some are stuffed, many are starved. The international aid agencies have done much work in alleviating this gross inequality but much still needs to be done. Get this book to understand the issue better.

Africa’s Seven Billionth Child – What is its Future?

For the seven billionth child born in Africa, the opportunities will be limited especially when it is in countries where development has really lagged. In those countries, chances are this baby will have several siblings and have to share whatever resources there are in the family with several others. Because of this, the baby’s health and education will receive fewer resources than those symbolic seven billionth babies born in more developed parts of the world.

Of course, this is a generalization because in many countries in Africa, most especially in South Africa, children of affluent families enjoy similar privileges and opportunities that children in the developed world have. This is true even in developed countries. The poor will always have less opportunities than the rich. The difference is in the availability of access to these opportunities. In some countries, such access is affected by race, gender and resources.

What future will this seven billionth child have? – Rosy or bleak?

This will largely depend on where the baby is born and whether it’s male or female! If this baby is a bright little male born in the developed world, then, the future probably will be rosy as the opportunities will be there. If this baby, however, is born a little girl in the less developed part of the world, the opportunities might be rather nasty.

Overall, however, this symbolic seven billionth baby has a better chance to live beyond 5 years and at getting an education than its parents had. On the other hand, those symbolic seven billionth babies born in a country where girls are somewhere between the family dog and Grandpa’s camel, then the future is probably bleak.

The population in many countries is getting younger and younger and the job market is saddled with a young population that is scrambling to find employment. However, they are also new consumers, so if the economies can overcome the greed of American bankers and the looniness of European politicians, they’ll pay for all our pensions, have decent lives and consume like crazy to keep the economies perking. . it’s not a zero sum game. Countries with too few young people such as Japan or Russia, are in the deepest possible demographic doodoo.

To succeed, these babies will certainly need resources that remote areas and farms in poor countries can’t provide as the new work place demands new skills and a capacity for lateral thinking with a real breadth of experience. Chances are this baby will migrate to neighboring countries to handle the jobs their own population hate to do. But if born in a developed world, she can learn the skills not only to survive but lead the change and profit from it.

BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India and China) are sprouting while PIGS (Portugal, Italy, Greece, Spain) and a few sucklings, are falling off the truck. Job opportunities seem to be shifting as well as development takes place more rapidly in other parts of the world. The West is not slowing down, others are just catching up and that really improves the chances of number 7 billion having an opportunity at a decent life.

As Thomas Friedman says, this world is now flat, hot and crowded. This is the world that just welcomed this seven billionth baby.

So sad…… another child born into poverty and despair……

Endless population growth is not sustainable.

The world adds 80 million more people to feed, clothe, house and provide energy for every year..

Around the world we can find a food crisis, a water crisis, a declining fish stocks crisis, a Climate Change crisis, an unemployment crisis and an OVER POPULATION crisis.

The worlds poorest people are having the most children. They have not figured out the connection between their poverty and family size. If you can not provide for yourself you can not provide for a child.

Will the Earth solve the American problem?

It is the Americans that are the biggest population burden on the planet.

Every mouth Americans consume enough to to support 80 Africas or 50 South Americas. And Americans “produce” the match. When Americans eat (consume), they dump all over the Earth.

There are more birds on this planet than people.
There are more rats on this planet than people.
Not only are ants more numerous, their combined weight dwarfs (1000x) everyone on Earth.
The total population of chickens is 18 billion.
The total biomass of fish is double that of people.
However, the total population and biomass of whales, lions, and elephants is not large, by comparison.

Why is the American trash not whining about too many ants, or birds, or rats, or chickens? Because Americans are not concerned with numbers, only with murdering innocent people.

These degenerate, homicidal, low-grade, shiftless, useless, self-entitled, self-important, wastes of space actually have the gall to talk about how Africans (and other resilient peoples) are the problems… when the Americans CREATED the problems.

Of course, Americans don’t want to solve the problem themselves by removing themselves from the Earth.

    Nope.

It is just another excuse for Americans to invade, mass murder, commit war crimes and hurt babies, mothers, the injured, and the sick everywhere else in the world.

    Why?

Americans are genocidal monsters who want a planet full of slaves to feed them Big Macs, ride around on their fat asses to watch NASCAR races, while they slide their wide behinds into their HUMMERs, to go buy cheap Chinese crap at Wal-Mart, and think of more ways to f*ck up the Earth.

Noob, you and your kind just need to start wearing a condom then your people can lower their birth rate. We will lower our consumption and you stop making so many babies and things will improve. Noob, I especially hope you personally wear a condom because God forbid you reproduce and pass your nastiness on to another generation.

The native born US and EU populations are at Zero Population Growth. The increase in global population is totally due to high birth rates in Africa, Latin America and other impoverished areas.

Americans: There is a fuel problem. There are too many vehicles.

The World: No, there are too many monster trucks, hummers, and private jets. All of which comes from America.

Americans: The world needs to reduce the number of bicycles. That will solve the vehicle problem, which means more fuel.

The World: Americans need to lose their monster trucks, hummers, and private jets (and highways, shopping malls, airports, repair garages, drive-thrus, suburbs, etc).

Americans: I am not riding a bicycle. This is the land of the FREE and DEMOCRACY and LIBERTY. Everyone is just jealous of our American Exceptionalism.

The World: Are Americans made stupid or just born this way?

One interesting fact; combined pandemics in Africa kill 38 million .

Africa’s population set to double by 2038.

American mass murder and genocide set to double now (with their murder machine the US military).

Sarah Palin is the average American.

Are 1 billion Chinese worse than 300 million Sarah Palins or Rush Limbaughs or Dick Cheneys or Ted Turners?

This article is years old and the info in it is outdated. We became 7 billion in 2011, we have now 7,196 million people in the world today. So, we’ve added 200 million people in the meantime. It blows my mind!

It looks like the American sycophants have shown up (not American but kiss American behind).

I guess their wish and hope and dream is to become as worthless and useless as Sarah Palin, the American ideal.

  12. Makati1 on Mon, 15th Sep 2014 3:26 am

noobtube, you have to remember that Americans are “exceptional”. The Fact that they consume more than five times the resources that Africa does, but has less than 1/3 of the population of Africa, is meaningless to them. All they want is more, more, more… because, “We are exceptional.”

  13. Davy on Mon, 15th Sep 2014 6:48 am

If a whole continent cannot get their shit together then who is to blame. If Asia and Africa have a culture of overpopulation this is their issue. The Americans are not forcing Africans and Asians to reproduce. Too many people is just as bad as too much consumption. At this point the developed west is reducing consumption and population it is Asia, Africa, and parts of South America that are increasing theirs and consumption. The west is doing their part in reductions maybe not by any choice but by results. Asia will bring on the end of the world from both overconsumption and over population. This is the most insidious combination

  14. Makati1 on Mon, 15th Sep 2014 7:39 am

Davy, the USSA doesn’t have it’s shit together and hasn’t for many decades. At least since 1971. That was the point when they realized that it was failing so they switched to Charmin for money. They have existed on past glory, but it is fading quickly under the light of the internet. Soon many Americans will know what it is to go hungry and starve to death in the streets. It’s only a matter of time. Stop the food stamps and welfare and watch the 3rd world burst into reality on US streets.

  15. Kenz300 on Mon, 15th Sep 2014 11:23 am

Endless population growth only leads to more poverty, suffering and despair.

    Wrap it up……… snip it…….
