The national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is $3.66 per gallon. This is a penny less than last month and three cents more than last year.

Buy an electric car or better yet a bicycle and do not worry about the gas price rise.
Only in America do they worry about the cost of gas due to the seasons. This is just one of many ‘distractions’ that keep Americans from seeing the rest of the world.

Kenz300, as a person who has, for the past 52 years, only used a bicycle or walking to get around, I’m with you on the bicycle thing. However, the problem is not confined to cars: almost everything in our society runs on gasoline, including food transportation from source to consumer.

Beery, you are correct. Personal car use is a small percentage of oil/gasoline used to get EVERYTHING you have and use to you. Even the house you live in came into existence by means of many barrels of oil and can only be maintained by even more barrels of oil.
Somewhere I read that it takes the energy of a barrel of oil to get a cubic yard of concrete in place from mines to solid concrete under your house. Sounds about right.

Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
Electric vehicles are part of the solution. Bicycles and walking friendly cities are another. A transition to second generation biofuels made from algae, cellulose and waste will also be a step forward.
There is no one easy magic bullet solution but there are many small solutions that make a difference.
