I think it’s interesting that the two people shown in the video are talking about sustainability, energy, economy and environment, when it’s obvious to anyone with eyes that both of them waste energy and despoil the environment because neither of them even eat sustainably or economically.
Both of these people are carrying 50 pounds or more of extra weight, which causes them both to use extra energy to get around and to place higher burdens on the environment than people who are not overweight.
People who obviously overeat to such an extent that they are overweight or obese have no business talking about these issues. Nicole Foss could do a lot more towards preparing for peak oil if she lost 50 pounds.

Beer, food insecurity, hunger, and regional famine are next in the global effort to cut down on obesity.

I wouldn’t knock fat storage it may be necessary for survival.
Stored energy reserve that keeps you warm and saves on heating but does slow you down and make you easier for the bear to catch though.

Beery,
When I was 24 my appendix ruptured because I did not pursue the symptoms. Too busy working. I went from 185 lbs to about 160 in less than a week. I lost a lot of muscle mass. The infection and abcesses would have killed me without surgery and strong anti-biotics. It helped to carry some extra weight. Fast forward to my 50s. Obviously carrying some extra weight as we live well and metabolism slows as you age. Cancer appeared, rapid surgery, and another huge weight loss. (caught in in stage 1 and prognosis is just fine). Now, I don’t worry about a few extra pounds because I know if I get sick it will help me survive. The body image conscious folks probably won’t make it when times get tough or life throws some curves. If you look at those who do things like free dive, swim across the channel, work in the north, or work hard on farms or construction sites they all carry some extra pounds. The pipe cleaner types aren’t around for the long haul unless they are specialized runners or something.
Of course I am not talking about the pop drinking obese.
Now, I am pushing sixty and can still cut and spit a cord of wood in a day. I still do construction work as needed. I could care less if I am packing some extra weight because I can out work almost everyone I know.
Nicole Foss is not obese. She looks maybe a little heavy, but like a normal person does as opposed to modern fashion plates.
I did think her presentaion sounded like city folk playing at being survivalist farmers, though. Her message on debt was a good one to hear. It made sense. However, we do need doctors and specialists regardless of economics. I don’t think her dire vision of doom is accurate. People need to make sensible choices, but not entirely at the expense of their dreams. If someone wants to pursue an advanced degree and has means to pay for it, then all the best.

Nicole Foss sure looks obese to me. Anyway, the fact is that if a person is overweight, he/she is more likely to die younger. Carrying extra weight only helps in certain rare circumstances, and it may well contribute to the very illnesses that you cite, and which you claim it helped you survive. Being overweight hurts in the vast majority of cases, as it makes heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure and other common life threatening illnesses far more likely.
