Auditors warn of oil and gas tax increases

Ernst & Young, the auditors whose clients produce more than half the North Sea’s oil and gas, has warned it is “almost inevitable” the government will raise taxes on oil and natural gas companies this autumn.

The likelihood of a tax increase prompted analysts at Merrill Lynch, the investment bank, to advise its clients not to buy exploration and production companies highly exposed to the UK.
