Oil production in North Dakota hit another record high above 674,000 barrels per day in July as oil companies successfully tapped the region’s shale bounty, data from the state’s Industrial Commission showed on Wednesday.
Oil output in the Bakken, Sanish and Three Forks prospects also rose, to a record high just under 610,000 bpd in that month, the data showed.

WOW! SOS is probably partying heavily today! But it is not going to last and will never be more than a drop in the bucket. Dream on.

OOo its a bounty! 600k barrels eh? How many barrels of oil\energy does it take to produce that? is that 674,000bpd net? 500k net….300k….?
We know the alberta tar-sand are around 5:1. So when the tar-sanders say ‘Were ‘producing’ 1 million bpd, its actually 800kbpd. If the ND tar-shale\w\e is around the same ratio, then say, Net 540k bpd.
BUT, shale is more energy intensive that even tar-sands so…in reality its probably less than 500k net, though exactly what is hard to say.

DC, you are correct. It seems that all the numbers we get are gross, not net. I suspect that the picture is not so rosy if the net was published. EROEI.

DC, you know nothing about the oil in North Dakota. It is not oil sands oil or tar sands oil as oil haters love to say. In fact the very pure oil produced from the Bakken basin oil field in ND is rated at 43 degree API quality, higher even than normal high quality oil.
As for energy used to produce energy, how much energy does it take to keep Obama’s teleprompter lit up and working? Please do not buy any synthetic clothes as they are all based on oil. While you are at it, stop wearing leather shoes, wear only canvas or hemp shoes. Never take a bus or car to get anywhere and stop using your computer. You have wasted all the energy to turn it on to spill stupid ideas.
Shame on you for being so two faced. Use a horse to plow your fields and grow your own veggies in the cold winter months. Go and live in Saudi Arabia. They will take good care of you.

DC, I believe that oil from the Bakken is about a 1:3 EROEI. That’s what I’ve heard.
