Readers offer answers to high gas prices

…Could the United States Congress nationalize the gas trucking industry? There by forcing the oil companies to lower the price of gas?

…Why is nobody suggesting that the government combat high gas prices by adding additional taxes onto foreign oil imports to artificially drive the prices up further and decrease demand? To me this seems like the logical solution to the current gas shortage.
…Yesterday, I ordered 200 gallons of home heating oil. The price was $2.44 a gallon. It was to be delivered today. My oil co. called about an hour ago to tell me that the truck was on its way. The lady on the phone said that it was lucky I called yesterday for a delivery. As of this morning, the price was $3.33 a gallon and they could only give 50 gallons at that price due to restrictions on their supply. I will give them credit. They honored the price they quoted me yesterday and did deliver 200 gallons. What is going to happen this winter? Are we in the northeast going to be paying $4 or $5 or even more per gallon? It’s a scary scenario. Pray for a warm, dry winter. Believe me, compared to what’s going on in the Southeast, the price of oil doesn’t seem important but it is a concern.
