No, Nate Humans are very good at thinking about the future. I mean you do it and your’e human. The reason why the public is skeptical about peak oil is they don’t see anything happening that can’t be explained another way. The history of prediction is pretty dismal. If you look to the past just about all predictions about the future were wrong all the time.

Always a pleasure to listen to Mr. Hagen. When he describes humans as caring and valuing the presence more than the future I realize that is one of the trademarks of sociopaths – inability to plan/think ahead. I don’t think we are all sociopaths but I definitely subscribe to the words of Gerald Celente “the world is run by sociopaths”.
There seem to be theories that sociopaths are the product of evolution of our species – I have no idea if there is any real substance to that theory but if you look at some of the known characteristics of a sociopath – I think most people can name at least 10 known powerful persons that possess these characteristics (actually also some that the western industrialized world possesses as a collective):
– Callousness/Lack of Empathy
– Irresponsibility/Unreliability
– Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
– Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
– Shallow Emotions
(i.e. faked or staged emotions that serve an alternative motive. Outraged – anger being the only feeling they can truly feel – by insignificant matters and indifferent to what would upset a normal person)
– Need for Stimulation
– Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
– Manipulative and Conning
– Grandiose Sense of Self
– Pathological Lying
I can understand human addiction to consumption, alcohol, sex or whatever it might be but I honestly cannot understand one iota of what drives people in the power sphere. If I look upon them as sociopaths, my world makes a little bit more sense.
