The Skoda was one of a fleet of vehicles produced in the early 1990s to be driven in European cities, said John Stephenson, the vehicle’s previous owner, who made some modifications to make it lighter and more efficient.

Both Fernbach and Stephenson are advocates of alternative energies to power everything from vehicles to homes and public buildings, and both believe changes are inevitable because the world must now cope with ever-dwindling supplies of oil.
