Anti-oil sentiment sweeps across Europe — study

KUWAIT (KUNA) — Several European countries have seen a growing mainstream tendency against oil under the themes of “energy security,” “protection of environment” and “combat against climate change,” a specialized paper said on Wednesday.

The paper, filed by Dr. Ibrahim Al-Mehanna, advisor to the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, has been raised at the 20th forum on basics of the oil and gas industry being organized here by the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC).


The campaigns for energy security caution against reliance on what the European call “insecure sources of energy” and recommend finding alternative sources.

They single out as insecure areas the Middle East, Russia and Venezuela, the paper pointed out.

The campaigns for environment protection deem the fossil fuel the main source of greenhouse gas emissions. They recommend use of alternative energies such as the nuclear, solar and wind power.
