The U.S. refining industry has plenty of time to head off any shortage of heating oil next winter, an analyst with the federal Energy Information Administration said Thursday.
“There’s certainly time to make up for any shortage,” said Doug MacIntyre, an analyst with the EIA, the statistics arm of the U.S. Department of Energy.
The comments come as traders have furiously bid up heating oil futures in New York on concerns supplies may run tight this winter. Those concerns were fed Thursday, after the EIA reported a jump in demand for distillate fuels, which include heating oil and diesel, and a draw in stocks of heating oil.
